Car has a California plate, if that helps.

    And this is a clue,
although would have been easier if the seller had just told us up front.

    As to price, who knows?

Maybe, maybe not ... 911 engines from that era have been known to top 350,000 miles without requiring a rebuild. They are very reliable when well maintained. If the compression is 170-180 and leakdown between 3-6 percent, you are good to go.

However ... the 3.0 SC engines were somewhat prone to breaking headstuds, not so bad as the 74-77 cars but it does occur (ask me how I know) and it is something to watch for on a prepurchase inspection. If it's ever had the heads off the studs were probably replaced with better ones. The original sealed chain tensioners were the Achilles heel of the engine and should be replaced with oil-fed ones off the 3.2 Carrera motor, and the airbox needs a popoff valve to prevent backfires blowing it up; those are the other significant weak points on the car and it sounds like those have been addressed, as you would expect this far into the car's life.

    Great color and car.

Has had chain tensioner and pop off valve done by previous owner. Not sure if heads ever off, but at yesterdays smog test the guy said it runs cleaner than some new cars, not sure of the significance.
