The Great Escape
Great movie. Fabulous cast, led by The King of Cool, Steve McQueen. I so desperately wanted a leather aviator jacket after seeing McQueen in this movie. Alas, couldn't afford one...T
Spectre Turned it off after 45 minutes. Too boring. No action. What has happened to the Bond franchise? Are they seriously trying to destroy it? Sad.
In the Heart of the Sea Reported to have bombed at the box office, I thought it was a great film as far as entertainment goes. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-H35Mpj4uk[/ame]
A clear WTF on your observation after watching it last night.....in the first hour you get buildings blowing up, a extended fight in a runaway helicopter over a crowd of people, and a great car chase scene.....plus the scene with Bautista and that guys eyes that made the kids sqeamish. I'm concerned where they go from here without Craig.......remembering all the crappy Brosnan flicks.
I think we are 180 degrees from each other in our preferences re: 007. Brosnan was my fav Bond and the best Bond movies IMHO (I have all of them on DVD). The "buildings blowing up" was a couple of crappy Mexican houses collapsing after a very lengthy and tedious fiesta del muerto scene. The helicopter scene was ok (could have been shorter as we know the obvious end result). I didn't even make it to the car chase as I got too bored by the secret society meeting: Key in any Free Masons' conspiracy, Eyes wide shut and Nicolas Cage chasing the national treasure. Way too much "story building" (what story? they're out of Fleming's books) and talk. Where is the beef? 007 is all about super-over-the-top action and not about character development. It's a bit like a porn movie trying to be Shakespeare. PS: And I *REALLY HATED* all the British administration talk about downsizing the agents. We had this tedious topic already in the previous Craig Bond movies. Enough already. Let 007 do what 007 does best.
Holy Crap.....I've NEVER come accross anyone who preferred Brosnan to Connery & Craig. For me Brosnan was behind Connery, Craig, Moore, Dalton, Lazenby......but just ahead of Peter Sellers, so he does have that going for him.
No Remington Steele fan, ey? Moore is my other fav Bond but Brosnan was better Connery did only one good Bond, the remake of Thunderball. Lazenby sucked. Regardless of what Octane might say. Sellers hardly qualifies. Dalton was great. Craig had bad scripts.
Connery - the gold standard Craig - best modern Bond Brosnan - I liked his movies Moore - I never liked him Lazenby - coulda been great, if he did more IMO Dalton - blech
Batman vs Superman - disappointing Saving Mr Banks - Much better than expected, Hanks is great as Walt Disney Aeon Flux - Meh
Started The Letters. A dramatization of Mother Teresa's struggle with her faith as she continued to work in India for decades. At a Redbox near you. I remember reading a long article about this subject and found it very interesting. Much more interesting than this dry, plodding movie. I turned it off after 30 minutes, couldn't take any more. S...L...O...W... Half-hour in and the only "letter" so far is her letter to the Pope and his refusal to allow her to leave the convent. The "letters" were private correspondence between her and her superior in the Vatican from the 50's until her death where she talks about feeling completely alone and God had abandoned her, yet she continued to work tirelessly. Maybe it was my mood but the actress' accent I found grating as well. Skip it if I were you.
Another complimentary weekend of HBO so I tried watching Get Hard but could barely endure the first 10mins much less 2hrs, trashed it. I have not seen Jurassic World yet so I have it programmed for today starting at 6pm then capping the evening off with Gregg's favorite movie at 9pm....take a guess just for fun. PS, A History of Violence starts in 10mins....excellent movie in my opinion.
Across to Singapore. 1928. More or less the last movie Joan Crawford made before she became a big star. An OK swashbuckling film. Light entertainment. The young Ms. Crawford - none more lovely. T
Thoughts? That's one to watch again. Tonight, is was Concussion with Will Smith. Really, a must see. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3322364/
Not a movie, but I missed the whole Game of Thrones thing when it started a few years ago. Got the first season this weekend and haven't been able to stop watching. Was up to 3:30 this morning trying to get to the finale. Again, not a movie but better than most.
Watched so many movies lately on planes I don't even know where to start. Dead pool - funny take on comics for sure. I enjoyed it but don't expect a batman or Thor style action. Minions- a funny but dumb don't need to tune in movie. They are adorable haha
