Not big bucks to change them out too, you can get these made by Manley.

Is there a part number for Manley? Or how does one get pricing.

Perhaps more important would be looking at the valve guides, specifically valve to guide clearances.

Yes understood about the clearances of guides. Was curious if there is any known problems with the intakes if all is good.

I just had my heads refurbished. On direction from the shop they said not to bother with the inlet valves as they were in perfect order, in fact so were the exhausts but still changed them. Changed all the guides though.

And yes, although not big ££'s, it does all start to add up when your in that deep!

No known issues. How much wear versus the labor to go in again is always a consideration.

Regarding this 'throw it away, while you are in there'-philosophy:

The intake valves are not sodium filled, so they neither are hiding any bad surprises nor are they that time-bomb like the sodium filled exhaust valves.
This means, they can be checked for dimensions, for pitting on the seats, etc.

If they are within specs after thorough cleaning, measuring and examination I would not hesitate for one second putting them back in. Freshly cut in with maybe new guides.

    Best Regards
    Martin

My intake valves were completely in spec - just a kiss of the valve grinder and a kiss of the seats and they looked and sealed fine.

I got my replacement exhaust valves from Manley Performance Products, Inc. They are actually a special stainless steel alloy they call Gen II 2600. They cost $80 each, about twice what plain stainless ones cost from Superperformance UK. My machinist uses these valves exclusively in the blown Nitro and Alcohol engines he builds, and swears by them. I could have insisted we use the Superperformance ones, but at this point arguing over $150 and pissing off the machinist, whom I trust, doesn't make much sense.

Presumably new intake valves would cost about the same.

this is true, of course. But, as you have to take them out, as the OEM guides are poor and very likely need replacement, as the final cost of the opeation in very big (unless you can do it by yourself, not very common) I think that you can change the intake valves too without increasing too much the final cost. But Martin is right: they probably don't need replacement.

    ciao
