And if they aren't winning, the boo's arrive no matter what they did for Ferrari in the past. The Tifosi expect both drivers to finish first simultaneously in every race.
Probably. But I think the Tifosi is happy with their drivers if they obviously are trying their hardest. They fell in love with MS, not because he was winning, but he was very obviously driving the skin off the thing and lifting it's performance well above where it would otherwise have finished. Same with Gilles. With the current drivers, I'm not seeing the effort. More I am seeing them waiting for the car improvements. At least Alonso gave it 105% every race! Pete
+1 Especially since Nico learned last year to not just roll over and give positions away, as that was the one thing that made Lewis champion over Nico those past 2 seasons. Last year he was a lot quicker than Kimi, about the same amount as Alonso did before him! IMO Kimi has picked up his game this season, and gotten back to mostly his old self. Hmm. Irvine has always claimed that Schumacher was just that much faster. Said he was amazed by his speed. Barrichello was hugely quick in the years before Ferrari, and his qualifying showed that, too. Very often there was less than 2 tenths between them.
Same they said regarding me and my Alonso comments before he finally came to Ferrari. ''when he starts winning, you'll support him all right!!'' they said...He did win, and I never supported him. I respected him for his talents but it ended there. Did not and could not support his side of the garage. Oddly enough, late last season I finally started to support him.
A decision no doubt made by the Scuderia given MS qualities, both as a driver and as a professional (his character as a perfectionist and winning mentality). He commanded it by who he is, not by enforcing it in a contract. Plus for the Scuderia it makes it easier in dealing with issues, every team members role was clear from day 1. For me the most obvious explanation. +1 Drivers, f1 team management and Ferrari management have different responsabilities. Why mix that.
Ferrari wouldn't want Elton, he's the anathema to their culture..... He'd end up getting sacked for his arrogance. Ferrari is about Ferrari, it's not about the ego of a driver. Enzo would have hated him.
MS watched/witnessed the Senna versus Prost debacle and therefore wanted to ensure he did not get involved with this sort of team de-stabiliser. My motorsport books are still in boxes so I cannot easily quote them, but I am pretty sure he had veto rights over his team mate and of course Ferrari were happy for this because their goal was the WDC, and MS was the driver they hired to do it. Agree. Pete
I don't think he'll fit in terribly well. Everyone can see how he reacts when he's not winning or the entire team sucking up to him. Doesn't matter who they put in the car right now, it will not suddenly win. Ferrari aren't completely mentally insane so they know this too. They have a fantastic line up and a great leader in Vettel, who works well within the team to try and move forward. No point changing that.
That's what I meant in my post # 167, only to be told that tifosi would cheer anyone driving a red car anyway. Correct about Enzo Ferrari.
We would all cheer the other car, and go home if it retired, even tifosi won't overlook a muppet driving the car, they would revolt!
I feel Vettel and Kimi are equivalent to Berger and Alesi ... so I'm not expecting any results until they buy a large number of personal from the right "other" team. Love Ferrari, but Italians are hardly the best at motorsport. Pete
The problem with Ferrari, is Italian communicate with their hand waving, and modern F1 cars have nearly enclosed cockpits that put a crimp on this important form of driver/team communication.
Kimi & Seb are vastly better than Berger and ... who ... Alesi? How about 5 WDCs vs. Zero? Hell, Alesi only won 1 GP race, and I seem to recall that he inherited that one.
Assuming both drivers are level performance wise an owner would needto decide between nico for less headaches and drama or hamilton for more notoriety and money. Difficult choice to make that's for sure.
Seb, this and last year, has so far proven that Adrian Newey really won those 4 WDC's. Remember all he had to do was beat Webber. If Seb was not there, then Webber would be a 4 WDC driver and nobody here rates Webber. Kimi's WDC was undeserved IMO and was caused by the McLaren drama. Yes he had the most points but it was hardly a convincing season/win. So IMO neither Seb or Kimi are any better than Berger or Alesi as drivers. Berger and Alesi were getting the same results in "similar", if not worst, performing Ferraris. Pete
Wouldn't change a thing, Enzo wouldn't have hired him in the first place, the old man had a vision and culture at Ferrari he protected. Face it, Elton at Ferrari would spark the beginning of the destruction of the teams moral, all his BS and whining, lying to get his way, entourages of muppets hanging around, blaming everyone but himself when he ****s up The guy has no class, and even less charm. He's not fit to walk through the gates of maranello. I actually asked Luca DM a few years ago in private about him, and he wasn't impressed outside of his speed which is obvious. Trouble is, speed isn't the only factor, you have to have racecraft, common sense and the brains to work out strategy to win an F1 race, as it's not a 100 yard sprint, it's a marathon. That's where he fails, he can't plan a campaign. Without the Mercedes car and the outright backing of the rat and toto, he wouldn't have won either of his latest championships. Without the extreme help of timo Glock, he wouldn't have had his first either.
