He is no Senna. Statistically speaking he has matched Senna, but that's as far as it goes.

He needs much fiercer competition on track to prove his might in adversity, a much more singular dedication, much more selflessness, much more humility and philanthropic accomplishments to even think about likening himself to Senna.

There's a reason a WHOLE nation mourned the loss of Senna. Look at all his accomplishments off-track...what legacy has Hamilton left behind? A whole lotta nada.

I haven't, but one interview won't change my view on him. Definitely not a spontaneous interview, plenty of stuff could have been rehearsed etc.

From what I've seen and what I know about him, he's a sulky knob who only cares about himself. Heat of the moment comments I fully understand (see Sebastian Vettel), and I can excuse it...but the way louise goes on about it, even weeks later and still his entire body language is that of a sulky teenager who didn't get a new Playstation 4 just because he asked.

I certainly haven't, I've seen enough of Elton to last a lifetime, remember I'm in the UK, so every f1 or car related show bangs on about the little whiner. I know all I need to know about him, what do I care if he pooed his pants at five while living in the slum that is Stevenage (according to him)

I'll say again, if you follow F1, you really should take 30 minutes & give it a watch.

May just change your perceptions a little. As Tom S noted, 'well done Lewis.'

    Cheers,
    Ian

Sorry Ian, I follow F1, concentrating on Ferrari and a few drivers I like. I don't count Elton as having any interest for me at all, an interview where he says the right things won't change my opinion of him given the hours of interviews I've already seen where he was a tool

    Fair enough.

For sure, everyone's entitled to their opinions. As is well known, I'm no LH fan either.

But, I've gotta say, he came across very well in that interview/Q&A session.

    Cheers,
    Ian

You can lead horses to the water, but you cant make them drink.

I'm not a Hamilton fan, the interview did not really change much, but I was impressed with him, more so than ever before. Fiona Bruce is a pretty good interviewer, not "tough" questions or Hard hitting - but we are talking F-1 so its the end of the world. but Hamilton came across as very knowledgeable and really showed more of what he does behind the scenes... so its not all rap stars and champagne... You cant take away the story... and its pretty compelling.

but he still has not been tested with a group of drivers like Senna had... Back in the late 80's early 90's you had 6-8 drivers that were winners ... and sharks...today - maybe 3?

Senna competed against some of THE BEST EVER:

Prost, Piquet, Mansell, Berger, Schumacher, Belloff, Warwick, Alboreato, etc... all these guys were either winners or champions in some form - if not in F-1 then in Group C.

    Hamilton has at best:
Vettel, Riccardo, Alonso, Raikkonen ,Button. and really other than Vettel none are really that great, but had cars that were the best at the time.

I'd say tiger woods is very good in interview, still wouldn't let him drive the Mrs to work! Jimmy saville here in the UK was great in interviews about his charity work, still fiddled with kids when no one was looking!

I just don't see the point in wasting 30 minutes listening to the latest Elton spin

You're severely contradicting yourself...Vettel isn't that great because well, by your own rationale, he had the best car for years...and oh, he got his a$$ handed to him by Ricciardo in his debut year in equal equipment.

    wonk, wonk.

And if we use Kimi as a benchmark, then by your rationale, Alonso > Kimi > Vettel, because Alonso dominated Kimi throughout his stay at Ferrari, while at this present point in time, Vettel is behind Kimi...

True, but Mansell, Berger, Belloff & Warwick? Really? 'Best ever'? Not IMO.

Unfortunately, we never really got to see Ayrton -v- Michael. :(

I don't think that's a bad lineup there..... No goats, but more than respectable.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Today's drivers line up is very talented if you ask me. Alonso dethroned Schumacher the King of f1 and Lewis is as good if not better than alonso. Looking at he past through glasses Tinted by nostalgia won't help anybody

Objectively Hamilton is one of the best there is. Subjectively one can sure say senna is better. But Stewart? Overrated. Vettel overrated as well - Kimi is handing it to him this year and alonso ripped him to shreds

People say I have skewed views but damn I think some of you do

Ian, I wouldn't dream of wasting my time watching a self-promoting Hamilton for 30 mins.

I cringe everytime I see him being interviewed during GP.

The guy could win 10 times the WDC, I would still not like him.

Again, fair enough. (Although I'd disagree that's it's 'self promoting' - sure, it's all pretty soft Q's, but he does very well IMO.)

I'm not trying to make you like him.

I just said its worth a view.

    Cheers,

It's a bit like asking why an opera lover doesn't want to listen for rap music.

I have seen enough and heard enough about Hamilton to know that I have no interest in more information about him.

The vast majority of the interview was about F1, not him.

Sure, he was 'explaining' it, & he did a fine job IMO.

    Cheers,

Give it up Ian, we don't care a damn what Elton thinks about anything. He could talk about Kate uptons boobs for 30 minutes and I still wouldn't be interested in what he had to say

Very funny to see the f1 section of this forum the most refined.

I thought the interview was nice. I've never met him and know no one that is friendly with him but from what I've seen he appears very genuine. And I like that.

Yep, no sense of humility at all. Making jabs with a condescending overtone doesn't make it any less petty; it actually makes it worse.

I watched. It's okay. Self involved but reflective. On display is a Lewis who is pleasant in a contrived way. Think sponsors function, imho.
