Sempre: It was NOT crashed at Bologna-Raticosa, 06529 finished 1st in Class at that event. The crash occurred at an unknown event subsequent to the May date. Vittorio Bilotti was the owner/driver at this time. The car did not reappear in competition until October of that year, based upon my research.

For Vittorio Bilotti I have the following:

    24° Sorrento - Sant'Agata on 08.05.1966; 275 GTB; 1st in class; time 00:06:54,8 (average 91.128 km/h).
3° Coppa Citta di Volterra on 19.05.1966; 275 GTB; startnumber 460; 2nd in class; time 00:06:35,6
    12° Bologna - Passo della Raticosa on 22.05.1966; 275 GTB; 1st in class; time 00:22:35,3 (average 86.638 km/h)
    2° Ponte Corace - Tiriolo on 04.10.1966; 275 GTB; 2nd OA; 1st in class; time 00:06:37,3 (average 76.113 km/h)

Indeed a gap between May and October 1966....

NOT a Carl de Bickero owned Ferrari but....I've just been speaking to a very nice Italian in Miami and he told me that his father, Giovanni Volpe, used to own a Ferrari 212 Inter coupe, with a low roof, when he lived in Naples in the 1950s. I've looked in Marcel Massini's book but don't see it. Any ideas, anyone?

    O.K.,

Found it. I'll put the entire story up tomorrow. Looks as if it's a previously undiscovered Ferrari! How exciting!

Great idea! Carl has owned some absolutely fantastic Ferraris, a true enthusiast, and is a hoot to chat with. I never miss a chance to catch up with Carl when I'm in St. Petersburg.

John, thanks for documenting his story.

The next two of Carl's old Ferraris, are up.

The first is a 500 Mondial from the 1950s. The second is a first series 410 SuperAmerica. I was able to work out the serial number of the Mondial, but not the Series 1 SuperAmerica so now it's time for the sleuths on the forum to tell me which car this is!

I have looked at all the histories of these cars but can't find it.

Thank you. My mistake was that I thought it had been a Series 1 SuperAmerica, so had never looked further....

There is a comprehensive history and description of the car in the Gooding Pebble Beach catalog from 2011.

Sorry, this is NOT the silver SuperAmerica that Carl owned. He just called me to remind me that I had already investigated 0715SA and this car that Carl owned will be going up shortly. To clarify: Carl owned both this silver LWB, (2800mm) 410 SuperAmerica AND 0715SA, (2600mm),a little later on.

As Carl points out: "You can tell the difference from the louvres in the side of the front fenders; the LWB cars had 8 separate slots, the SWB cars had 6."

So I believe this Silver 410 SuperAmerica is in the chassis range from 0421SA to 0497SA and my hunch, (but only that!), is that it's the prototype, 0421SA, later re-numbered by the factory to 0471SA. Something about the front bumper/spotlights....

I'm sure that Dyke or Marcel will be able to solve the mystery.

Carl's second 410 SuperAmerica is now featured, plus more original photos of the Hitherto unknown 1952 2!2 Inter, which must have been one of the few with triple Weber carburetors.

    Thanks Marcel,

At least it's still there and not scrapped. At some point, someone will buy it and restore it. Don't envy them!

    Thanks Marcel.

I thought 0243/EU belonged to the "0217/EL and 0221/EL" family but the body is different.

Rather belonged to the "0223EU, 0231/EL, 0239/EU and 0251/EU" family.

Not absolutely sure about identity as the position of the bumper horns is different. Compare with the front view as published by John Starkey/"Writer" a few posts earlier (see post #41).
