The general population on Fchat hates people who drive the cars, and god forbid an f355 sees rain! That's bad advice, man.
Such tongue in cheek BS. I just met a bunch of stooges who drive the sheet out of their cars. I put a thousand miles on mine last weekend. Leak down is 5% or less across all 8 cylinders.
Agreed! When the Stooges started all we did was fix these cars. We got the 348's bullet proof and then work began on the 355's...they came later after all. Now the 355's are getting bullet-proof. Last weekend Stoogeapolluza there was almost no wrenching. We ate 2 fried turkeys, 15 lbs of chicken wings and drank lots of suds! We need to get back to fixing cars of Fatbillybob is going to be GiganticBillybob.
You'll want to replace all of the hoses with a silicone kit. The factory hoses appear to be made of black chalk and will eventually leave you in a big cloud of smoke on the side of the road. SR355H F355 Silicone Hose Kit - Ricambi America, Inc.
I just read this, went to pick up some lunch and watched the water temp go near the red at a stop light. Dropped to normal when moving 25mph. Dang. Fan isn't coming on. Just ordered a new switch as the fans is only 2 years old (as is the switch, but spares can't hurt). Tomorrow I'll take a good look. Dang.
Heat management is a big thing with these cars. Use shields where you can. The Goth stuff is really well thought out. Thermostat. Check it as often as you can. For sure replace it on your major, but more often may be advised. The bypass is another issue that needs addressing and there are several mods. Headers and cats, just replacement them. In CA, replace the cores in your stock units. For now, Fabspeed headers are pretty good. Goth is working on an alternative to that might be the next must-have once they are production ready. These cars really wake up when headers, cats and exhaust are replaced.
So far for me : Tubi Headers ( not yet installed) Tubi test pipes ( not yet installed) Capristo bypass valve New thermostat Upgraded F1 relay Goth heat shields Last of the stickies
Theres a lot of good advice here. The one thing I can say for sure is motor mounts. Even if they don't look cracked or dry rot, they get weak. I replaced mine and my shifting is better than ever. I also replaced the tranny mounts while I was at it.
We have found that merely replacing the "silentbloc" bushings at both ends of the shifter rod dramatically improves the preciseness of the shifts. On the motor mounts, it is interesting to notice the change in distance from the alternator case to the frame rail, old mount to new. Cracking aside, they sag more than one would expect over time.
I think I know what you mean,,Silentbloc> the square rubber joint by the tranny? Can you explain and is there one under or near the gear shifter to? Thanks
Don't you get the worm and fuzzy feeling knowing you paid a fortune to buy a Ferrari only to worry how many feet it will move before braking down? Think about the word relibality.
I am unfamiliar with relibality but my 355 is certainly reliable. Feeling -worm and fuzzy just thinking about it
Exactly, Jim! We are 2 of the many owners that enjoy our cars without worry Looking forward to a nice ride this weekend
Never had an issue with any of my 4 girls, they all do what they were made too Disclaimer ~ They all came from homes where they were well maintained by professionals as these cars should. Not weekend warrior or internet mechanics.
I am not worried about my car's reliability. Runs like an industrial sewing machine. Several long road trips later, it has proven its abilities. Ive only had a few issues that were frustrating on my '95. The air conditioning was one but now has no leaks and blows cold - the other a fan ecu... Rest has been well maintained and brings lots of smiles. Robb
is it me or is this thread stupid? Drive the car,if something breaks fix it,if its not broke or worn out leave it alone.
1. Keys 2. Gas My 355 has been rock solid except when I forget to put it on the battery tender and leave it sitting for an extended period....
Seems like the longer i own it the cheaper and more reliable it becomes. It also helps to understand it mechanically.
OUTSIDE GEARBOX CONTROLS - Ricambi America, Inc. #46 and #29 The one at the transaxle is more often the problem child. Replacement of these typically requires shifter adjustment. Although this is not hard, it will take patience.
