Don't shoot me down, but after reading so much about this beiber thing, did they actually come out as a couple? I didn't know beiber was gay, obvs Elton gave us a lot of clues so I was pretty convinced at some point it would turn out that Nicole was a beard

F1 1.2 million
Alonso 562k
Ferrari 668k

Lewis 2.8 million

In other words about as much as them all combined

 

And Kim Kardashian has 72 million. Doesn't make her and her enormous inflated ass the standard of measurement, does it?

Part of the reason Elton has the amount of followers he does is because the likes of Kardashians, Kanye's, Biebers and all he hangs out with. Just about any black actor/musician who has the means to go to Cannes every year or hangs out in Hollywood when Elton is there mention him in the instagram/twitter machine, which automatically translates to more followers.

I specifically mention them; most of them have a huge twitter following and they follow Ham for two things; he's black and embraces the black culture. Go to Africa (lived there long enough in several countries and been to plenty countries in there) and each and every person there that catches a hint of anything F1 related, all tell you that Hamilton is the man. They haven't a clue who anyone else is.

Same goes for celebrities that go to Cannes, of course. Elton is probably the only F1 driver that goes out there and hangs out with all the other celebrities (famous for being famous or otherwise), so automatic support goes to him again. If 4x world champion Vettel walks passed them on the street they haven't a clue who the **** he is. Kimi Raikkonen? ''What is that?'' they'll likely ask.

Elton does a lot to be as famous as he is, and the twitter/insta followers come with the territory.


Doesn't make him any better/more liked than other drivers. It's not a yardstick for likability.

How many followers does Donald trump have, I'm guessing (as I'm too grown up to Twitter at my age) he has a lot, yet lots of the world don't think all that much of him (but they, and me, also are not in the US and don't see everything he says/stands for, so we know nothing about the political position, so don't take this as a political stance please)

Followers and likes and pokes are in a fake SM world. In the real F1 world and outside of Britain, Elton is as popular as athletes foot in a hot tub

 

Never said it was a yardstick for likability. He's more well known that's all. The khardashians are the scum of the earth but in my view any exposure for f1 is good exposure. He can make a sex tape with Kendall Jenner for all I care - whatever gets the sport more popular is a good thing.

Again one cannot assume that exposure results in popularity but it's a good start

Any stats based on twitter/insta hits is going to be a huge flop, IMO.

I cannot see Hamilton's so called popularity in social media being of any benefit to F1 in any way. Beware of mass hysteria !!

Like you say, his "support" here or even on this forum is mostly due to "ethnic" interest, I would think.

Belloff and Warwick - the younger guys... were HOT property in F1. Belloff - died ... so never got to get to a top team, but in Group C - he was the benchmark.

Warwick - Senna feared him so much that the made Lotus not take him as #2 in 86... they took Dumfries .... sadly Warwick never got a good drive - some his own fault and some luck. but again drove the hell out of the Jaguar in Group C.
