Good Morning all! So I am at a crossroad, after two years of putzing around the only A/C component left allowing the system to leak down is the hoses. So I need to replace all the hoses. All of them. And then I am left with a stock functioning A/C that reportedly ain't all that great. I live in Louisiana, current temps are around 89 degrees F. With high humidity. It will be this way until November. So, it will take the same amount of work, roughly, to install an aftermarket A/C system as it will to replace the hoses and then I will have a new A/C that most have said works a treat. BUT Will replacing the stock system with aftermarket hurt resale? I could always keep the parts for retrofitting. Thoughts? Lester
Replaced mine with RetroAir Kit and kept the OEM parts. I think a working modern AC is worth far more than a non-working OEM but my 308 is for me to enjoy now without as much concern for resale later.
I'm voting no problem. There are basically two markets, those that want originality and those that want a good car to drive and enjoy. There are plenty of buyers in each. I am as much a 308 guy as you will ever know in your entire life and if you were selling your car with a good non stock a/c, I'm buying. Just throw your old parts in a box and don't worry about it.
Thanks for all the input folks, looks like RetroAir will be getting a call soon. And I'll be installing a kit outside in 90+ degree weather. Lester
I'm getting ready to go RetroAir myself. Keep us posted on the progress, please. I have only heard good things so far.
I just received my RetroAir kit last week. Haven't started install yet. I can't wait to be able to drive in the summer before dark!
I just finished doing a complete overhaul on mine (87-328); new hoses, expansion valve, fan, compressor the works. Before I mounted the compressor and all brackets, I decided now might be a good time to send it in for the major service. Saving a few hours on removal of all that stuff. I'm keeping everything stock except for the fan on the condenser. I'll have it back and complete in the next few weeks and will post an update with photos. The one thing I'll say that Tommy has said before me, go with R-12!
I have the Retro-Air in my 308, which is a black B. so it does heat up, but now thanks to the Retro-Air it is much cooler, still not like a modern car though.
