For my part, I thought Ricci did an exceptional job of remaining calm, measured and mostly positive in his post race comments. Even in his intra race radio. Many other drivers would have been turning the air blue with their language after that fiasco.

You can't expect a driver to be left out to hang like that, after an error that undoubtedly cost him the race, and still be all smiles and bunnies and rainbows when someone shoves a microphone in his face.

I think he did just fine, and if anything think even more of him for his measured response.

Did any of you guys watch Lewis and Justin Bieber drink YOUR champagne at Monaco? Ricci did. He went from immortal Victor to watching those two idiots drinking his champagne.

Give him a break, he was a lot calmer than any of us would have been.

Who was it again that was whining like a child exactly one year ago at the same venue and did not even show up at the team photo? I forgot about it, could you name him for me please and then we can continue talking about whiners...
As Aircon said: they are all but you have to point your finger at Vettel again even if he is not the subject of this thread but then you call others hater...shakes head...

Hah. Double standard. Hamilton got roasted here last year for his sullen behaviour on the Monaco podium after Mercedes bungled the strategy and handed Hamilton's win to Rosberg. This year, Ricciardo's behaviour was pretty much a mirror image of Hamilton's, perhaps worse - his telling the team off on the radio, sullen demeanor on the podium, whining in the interview - yet you make excuses for Ricciardo. This year Hamilton has been screwed out of several races already, but he hasn't shown a pout like whiny baby Ricciardo just did.

Imagine Michael Schumacher, now - HE had class. No matter how bad his team screwed up, either an individual mistake or a strategy mistake, Schumacher never ever blamed the team or criticized the team publicly.

I agree with the OP, Ricciardo just dropped a bunch of notches in my estimation, from standout rising future champion to unlikable rising future champion.

Difference is that it was Hamilton's own call that caused him to lose the race. And having been in the winningest car F1 has ever seen...slightly different scenario than winning your first ever race, on merit, in Monaco of all places, due to a ****ed up call by the team.

And I think one could forgive the team if they have chosen the wrong tyres but having no tyres at all after calling you in...Well imagine what Marko, Horner and others would say if Ricciardo would note in the grid, seconds before the lights go green that he actually forgot his helmet in the hotel room...oooops, very professional

Legitimate whining is fine if you have a genuine reason to be upset. Vettel whines on the radio for anything and everything that's the difference

From what I've seen (the transcript of the radio conversation was quoted here somewhere) it wasn't Hamilton's call. The team told him to stay out, he questioned whether that was the correct call - he didn't say he was coming in whether the team liked it or not - and they changed their minds and told him to come in. Have I got that wrong?

No, you are right...They decided together with Hamilton upon his feedback that they would call him in. It was not 100% Hamiltons fault and it was not 100% strategists fault, it was a team decision and whether you like it or not, Hamilton is part of this team.
Imagine coming in would have been the right decision and Mercedes insisted on keeping him out, Hamilton would have been the first to blame the team not doing what he suggested.
It is always the same: if it is right it is Hamiltons call, if it goes wrong it was the team but not him...Certainly I would be pissed working for Mercedes always being at fault when something goes wrong but not getting recognition if something goes right.
Look at this weekend: people praise Hamilton to make the Ultra Softs work for 40 laps but nobody mentions the one at Mercedes who said it will work out instead of playing safe like RB did who admitted afterwards that it was a to conservative decision.

Daniel Ricciardo is an Aussie, and they have a reputation for saying what's on their minds out loud - Especially when things go wrong through no fault of their own.

For those old enough to remember him:

Can you imagine how much more ferocious the condemnation of the Red Bull F1 team would be if Alan Jones was the driver?

I just got off of the DRic hotline and he tells me that he is just crushed....absolutely crushed that itschris from Florida over on Ferrarichat is no longer a fan as publicly announced earlier today.....

He will likely hold a press conference some time tomorrow to address this troubling development in hopes of remedying the unfortunate situation.

    ....NOT! :)

If Hamilton had STFU the team wouldn't have called him in. That's clear. He questioned them saying to stay out and made then second guess and change their mind. Everyone laughed and thought it was a stupid call, including Nico and Vettel...... And me

    The result speaks for itself

Winning strategy goes to the rookie on his first race. Unlucky, absolutely.

Next race gets screwed on tire change.

I'm pretty laid back, but I felt for Him 100% just as I felt for Hamilton last year even though it was his own screwup.

Ricci should be pissed. I would doubt his commitment if he weren't. RedBull really stepped on their salamis on that stop. How in the hell does burying any set of tires in the back of the garage during the race make any sense?

I am wondering if some heads will roll following that f*** up.

"Always critical" Marko has been silent about this issue ... yet.

From what I understand, the garage areas are very small. With wets and inters being used, some others sets had to be moved. The last second change was for the sets they weren't expecting and had not readily prepared for use by having them swapped with the sets in the garage.

A total blunder for sure. Not knowing where and what status tires are prior to ordering them on the car is pretty bad. I understand how it happened, but still inexcusable. They should've communicated all potential strategies to the garage and perhaps the garage should've communicated their situation as well. It goes to show how important training and practice really is. Here's an example of just one time something unexpected happened and the race went to sh@t.

Not only that, he said his tires lost all temperature and wanted new tires.

I give a big deal on the blame for that one on Hamilton himself.

There where quite a few people running slicks at this stage already, including Hamilton...any that did come in well before ricciardo (<5 laps) all went to slicks.

As you say though, total blunder that should never have happened. I'd understand it if a team like Haas did it, first time at MC etc.
