Have there been any gay f1 drivers? Not to stereotype but I doubt any gay person would have the aggression and temperament for f1

That was back in the days it was socially unacceptable (and in some places illegal) to be gay. Nowadays it is no big deal, so why would anyone want to pretend they are something they aren't?

 

Because they might still face bullying, particularly in the hyper-male environment that is the pit garages etc. Plus, there aren't many gay rappers out there, the gangstas wouldn't think kindly of Elton being gay I suspect

 

Just because it's accepted by people on facebook and written on memes in arty lettering, doesn't mean it's a potentially not very wise to ''come out''.

Would he lose sponsors? Highly doubt it. In fact I think a driver coming out could even get a very lucrative deal out of it.

Maybe different countries have different views on it. In the UK it's accepted in society generally, not just on Facebook and in "arty" circles.

Not so long ago a Welsh rugby player came out. That's as hard and "manly" a sport as you can get, but it didn't seem to cause a stir or give the person concerned any problems.

However, may also be worth noting that F1 visits some places that aren't, let says, very 'tolerant' of such lifestyles. I don't know what, if any implications that may have, but probably best to remain in the closet until retirement.

It's funny how some people try to perpetuate their prejudices at every occasion.

I can only laugh at the statement from toil (on my banned list, but somebody quoted him) that " any gay person would [n't] have the aggression and temperament for f1".

What a lot of "baloneys".
There are gays in contact sports (boxing for example), some are soldiers, police officers, fighter pilots, in football, rugby, in athleticism, in swimming, diving, freefall, climbing, etc... all very "macho" and some very dangerous activities. They don't seem to lack aggression or stamina to engage in activities that are far more taxing than F1.
