246 headlight covers

How are these treated in concours judging if installed on a US-spec 246?

 

As they were out lawed in the US, unless you have the paperwork that shows them as dealer installed, expect a deduction.

Even WITH the paperwork, expect a deduction.

I don't like any of them. Original is the best.

 

I personally love them. Would be great to be able to put them on and take them off from time to time to spice it up!

Don't have the heart to drill holes though ....

I agree! They might not have been installed at the factory but by looking at the drawings and early prototypes, they were "design intent". The Brandoli style completes the fender form.

I agree with this also.....

They carry on the design intent of the 275GTB.

And a Euro example now on US soil, I would say "Go for it".....

Point deduction. Maybe 2 points.

Not a factory option, makes them aftermarket and just like if you leave floor mats in the car, or have a frame around the license plate, it's going to cost you.

Once you get out of platinum range, I also suspect, but do not know for sure, that it could be used as a tie breaker (in a negative way) for a gold or silver.

Honestly, I hate 'em.

Oh, and I've only judged at the FCA PA/NJ, not on a national level, although theoretically we used the same guidelines.

I really care less about the points. For me it's about the design passion and pleasure of driving.

At FCA sanctioned concourses (and probably at Cavallino Classic ?), any non-standard item not part of that specific car "as it left the factory" (unless documented/proven by exhibitor) or IAC/PFA accepted "dealer option" or replacement part, expect deduction.
Many multi-make concourses seem to have more "flexible" rules.

I respect Sergio's opinion but....I see the early prototypes as "design intent" and the most pure. In my opinion, they complete the design, just like the E-Type and 275GTB.

The "big" Dino. A fantastic design. Too bad... There are only two.

 

Sergio is good enough for me, especially since he agrees with me.

Have you had a chance to see it up close and personal? IT was (not sure if it still is - just checked, apparently no longer there) in Dr. Simeone's car collection (on loan at the time) in Philly.

Had the luck to be there while it was, and it's an interesting and amazing car, that's for sure.

First, you have to find the vendor that has the correct ones and are contoured with the right shape. Brandoli in Italy has them but are really expensive and only respond when you contact them in Italian. Some on F-Chat have gotten theirs from them recently. Has anyone bought the ones from Superformance recently? Any photos other than what's on their website? I'd love to see the shape. They seem well priced and also sell the mounting hardware. Many are just flat plexi rolled into a tube and look wrong. Have a look at the above blueprints. They show how they fluidly continue the form of the fender.

Once you get them, they are over-sized and need to be custom trimmed to each car. Each car is slightly different. This takes a body restoration expert that is patient and takes care. Not for a normal body shop.
