Gentlemen, I need a set of axel boot for my 355. Any recommendation where I can get a set? Ebay has a set for $140. And is it wise just to replace the rubber boot not the axel?

Go to your local auto parts store and ask for boots for a 2.7l 911, 1978 or something. The boots are about $12 each with grease and clamps.

I have one on my F355, no issues.

If there is no audible clicking sound coming from the CVs I'd absolutely just clean, regrease and reinstall.

AW Italian, ricambi, do a search and you will find the answers. Some have other solutions such as the racing style that are low profile as well.

Been through this before. The "recommended" 911 boots will not fit correctly. Using them is a hack job. See https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/144520821-post30.html for full details. Also, complete boot fits can be had from Superformance in the UK for a good price, even after shipping.

I have not been able to make the Porsche boot fit. I just call up GT Carparts and they will sell you a boot kit for decent price. It fits.

And have bruce do the work. Bruce loves dripping fluids and gooey stuff and we can go over drink cokes and heckle him.

Gentlemen, I appreciate the input. If we keep sharing experience, in a matter of time all the Ferrari dealers will go out of business.

Fatbilly, that's the plan but when you say, "drink cokes" you don't really mean "drink COKES" right! I mean that's is so ordinary. I need a new high. Anyways, I have to pick up a set and I haven't seen what it looks like under the car yet.

Sorry...coke is for me and bruce. You are the young pepsi generation. Don't bother. Best course of action is don't waste your time. Let Bruce do your major and he will tell you if there are any other "while you are in there's" like the cv boots. Cv boots are better serviced not just put a new boot on. You want to disassemble and clean and reassemble with the new boots and check for things out of spec. If you blow up an axle it will destroy a bunch of stuff way more expensive than the axle.

Not a common failure by any means. More common boots blow and grease everywhere. Owner ignores or does not know. Dirt rocks pit and destroy joint. A boot service should include full clean up and teardown inspection to decide if new axle is in order. Noisy floppy joints are no es bueno.

Worst case racing guy for position. We fight in final corner to longest straight. Max torque coming out of corner for drag race to next corner. He never makes it there. Suddenly, his car jogs violently, spins into wall. After the race his car is a mess what is the forensics? I do not exactly know. Looks like cv joint let go. Grease everywhere. He felt Cv joint locked wheel enough to initiate spin. Inner cv joint disconnected from motor. Enough rpms to whip the axle and break more stuff up like a baseball bat in a washing machine.

I'll give Bruce a call when I get the parts but I haven't seen what condition it's in. My nephew made the accesment while inspecting the pads.

Fatbilly, I got it now. When you say "cokes" I thought you were reflecting back to your days of "Tune in, turn on and drop out". I missed that era by a little more than a decade. :)

Hammer, cigarette. Yep, that's definitely me.
If only that dang axle nut had come off, life woulda been a lot easier. Maybe requiring a smaller hammer.....or maybe I needed a bigger hammer. Nevertheless, needed a hammer. Ferrari tool #1, the BFH.

Just got back home from the 405 to 105 to 110 run. One second faster from 0 to 60 with the new axel boot. :)

Hey Bruce, why would axle nut not come off? I pulled some very rusted ones off a few months ago.

Sorry to not stop by. I'm tied up pulling my racecar motor. Don't worry that car will need something else for bruce to fix and I will come by next time.

Car didn't have enough miles on it. Needed to be driven more and faster.
Neither the 1/2"- or the 3/4" air wrench nor the heat wrench worked.

You say "air wrench", do you mean impact gun? My impact gun spun these off but I did use some PB blaster.
