I am looking forward to your experience after you go through the classiche review you mentioned is in your future. I haven't read or spoke with any 348/355 people who have done this yet and while I fully understand the originality part I'm curious how they weight the condition side of the evaluation. You have done such a great job with this car in a short period of time. Love it!

    I'm excited!

Finished the Tubi header installation and took the car out for a long drive. My goodness what a difference! I'm not sure if my OEM headers were on the way out, (they didn't blow any insulation, have any ticking or blowing sounds) but the minute I started the car up the difference in idle sound was noticeably louder and lumpier. I was not expecting much if any change in sound, but its definitely welcome.

The pick up down low has improved, it always seemed to pull up top so no discernible difference there. Blipping the throttle is now even more enjoyable and it has taken some of the laziness out of the low end response, the sound is much more F1 like and snappy.

I can say after handing the keys to a fellow F355 owner who has driven my car many times, he was sold on the Tubi headers after a quick blast.

    Worth every penny!

I also swapped out the stock grill for the Challenge grill after some deliberation... Looks mean again and matches the sound coming out of those tail pipes...

    Some pics from today.

Thanks for that awesome review, Elliott. Your car, after all of the hard work and attention to detail, looks absolutely fantastic!!

Great job. The car deserves you :)

Cheers Dave! I honestly never wanted something so bad as the Ferrari F355, so when it finally came to be I had to do all I could to get it exactly as I envisioned it. Its really close to being just right now : )

What was the story with the Challenge grill. Was it a factory option at the time from the start of F355 production, introduced later in the production life or was it always an add on accessory from the Ferrari parts counter?

Mid way through 95 the Challenge cars were equipped with them from what I have read. Didn't become an option for the road cars till 97/98.

Mine is genuine Ferrari, but obviously fitted after production. Its nice to have both. Takes about 30-45 minutes to swap them out.

For those that were asking via PM the weight differences between the OEM headers and Tubi are 6.6 kilos (14.5lbs) each versus 5.4 kilos (11.9lbs) each. So 2.4 kilos saved over stock. Thanks to Steve for the weighing them before fitting his set.

After another long drive today, I can say the claimed power increase is indeed there and overall I haven't enjoyed driving the car as much as I do now. The sound is just mental. I can't believe how lumpy it is at idle!

I just received these caps though someone had replaced mine with the later clip in type. (so I have no retaining clips or washers)

The retaining clips for these, do you recall if they are steel? Just trying to figure out if I can order these online instead of paying Ferrari price for them.

    Thanks.

Elliot, what did you do to the fender liners and what materials did you use?

    Thank you

Yes James, rubber oring and a steel external circlip is what secures it tightly.

Thanks for the info. No matter as I just checked and they don't fit my wheels at all actually.
I guess the wheels were changed to the later type?

Snap-in caps that were in it measure 2.17 outer diameter, new caps (for use with metal clip) measure 2.2 outer diameter and will not fit in the wheel.

    Hi Jim / Elliott....

Perhaps I'm not understanding you guys but I will take a look at mine later. I just recently propped out and old style cap and I'm not seeing and issue of the new style going in. The wheels I'm taking about are all 95 but a mix of the original and the newer ones.

I'll have a detailed look, shoot some photos and report back.

If you guys need any specific info, please let me know.

James - sorry you are correct that the old style ones are slightly thicker in diameter. I didn't update the thread with how I fitted them as they are thicker by a fraction. Refinished wheels alters the paint thickness and can present a problem with fitment.

I simply shaved down the outer edges carefully until they fit snugly inside the recess of the wheel.

Easy enough. Last question, you have the o-ring and the clip. A washer is listed as well. Do you have this and is it flat or a wave washer? Thanks!

    Elliot, great job !

Can you give a review of the differences in handling with the Fiorano springs and Challenge sway bars ? Any changes necessary electronically ?

    Guys,

I took a look at my old cap last night (no idea of P/N or if it was proper for the wheel) but the black side (black plastic) had no metal C-Clip. The new style has the metal clip. The O-ring is a separate P/N.

The clips and washers were crazy money through Ferrari so I ordered some stainless ones along with wave washers through McMaster carr. If it works out I'll post up the part #'s.

    Hey Jim,

    I'm confused - maybe I misted something here (I think I did).

The old wheel inserts don't look like they would use the c-clip and the new ones come with the c-clip. Also, what are the "wave washer" for? I've got to be think of something different...

EDIT - Nevermind, see image - I get it now.
