Most 355 owners are unfortunately very familiar with the rattle and buzz prone OE bypass valve. Either on their own 355, someone else's or from reading about it on this forum ...... my 355 was no exception to this malady  .... so as many other 355 owners have done ..... I first added tension 'turns' to the actuator linkage ..... worked for a bit ... noise came back ... then added an external spring to preload the shaft at center slightly .... worked for a little longer ..... noise came back ..... sourced a 'good used' bypass (not as worn) ...... worked a little while ... now the noise comes and goes ..... :(
Should I buy a new one and wait for that one to fail as well? Nope! .... enter the 'goth' solution to this nagging problem .... a New Robust Bypass Valve Design to replace to OE unit ... Rattles and Buzzes NOT Included!!! :)

Where does the vacuum pipe attach, on the side like OEM? Thats my only gripe with the Capristo version that I have. Would much prefer the vacuum tube to attach on the side rather than the top.

    Looks great.

Thanks for the good words .... :)

I looked at internet pictures of the cappy bypass valve and there were a few features I didn't like .... the butterfly itself has portions of the shaft welded on each end .... which leaves the thin butterfly plate to itself hold shaft/bearing alignment. I believe this was done to compensate for the flow reduction of the rather large butterfly plate 'stops', which are cast into inner wall of the housing (see cappy bypass pic below). However I am not certain if cappy still makes them this way.

The goth bypass valve uses a genuine Pierburg vacuum actuator (same brand as OE) ..... so it has the vacuum connection on the side of the canister ... :)

    Dear Mr. Goth,

It appears that you have a very nice prototype product. I would be willing, at no cost to you, to test that product for a period of 12 months. I can provide monthly feed-back on the performance and usability of that valve. I can even send some pictures if you like.

    Anything to help the brotherhood.

    :) :) :)

Let me know when they become commercially available. I like it.

Man, that is some gorgeous engineering. Are you offering them through Ricambi? Also, what makes these more robust and not prone to buzzing? It is beautiful, looking very very expensive. :)

Does the bypass valve noise sound like a rattling chain? I hear an intermittent noise that sounds like a metallic chain coming from the left rear? of the engine.
