Wonderful design details on the Silver Arrow I here; thank you! Two tone paint is difficult to see on this Riviera. With silver outside and silver inside to that color combination was also later used on the famous '59 Corvette Sting Ray racer. GM also used silver with a silver interior as well for the 1965 Corvette coupe prototype. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mr. Mitchell had a 'thing' about silver cars which ain't a bad thing Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Silver/silver on the '59 would have predated the Silver Arrow in '63. Silver on silver was used on others. I remember a Trans Am that Jordan had done that way. Mitchell's 1977 Caprice coupe had the different shades of silver to accentuate the surface changes. Silver exteriors are a favorite of Design for the exteriors. It highlights the surface changes the best.
That is interesting about the use of silver especially from John's pictures as well. I wasn't sure when the silver paint was used. The '59 was red in the 1967 movie Clambake but silver in 1963... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

humorous anecdote, W.L. Mitchell visited my class at Art Center in the mid '70's. As he was wont to do, he showed up in white, head to toe. G. Giugiaro was also visiting at the same time, but was dressed in the 'cool Italian' look of the time. Mr. Giugiaro's expression when he saw Mitchell was priceless. Two giants of vehicle design from totally different planets. And here he is with 'Blue Boy' Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

This white Corvette featured an early design for a urethane rubber 'endura' front bumper. While described as a 1965 Corvette it actually started as an early 1963 Corvette prototype. It features fuel injection and the 2 bar knock off style wheels. It was not until 1973 that the Corvette finally changed the chrome bumper design to the endura style. The Pontiac GTO design for 1968 introduced the endura bumper. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, we were just talking about that the other day. Today almost all cars have body colored bumpers, thanks to the '68 GTO
