I think its the cars owned by F1 pilots who had cars built for them are of real interest, although the others are also, obviously. I think Irvine purchased his car many years post-production, but he used it quite a lot.
Anyone ought to agree that POV is completely subjective, and there is no right way to reference these cars, there is only the 'whatever-makes-you-happy' way.
Just finished reading Joe's 288 GTO article in Octane, wow, reading that gave me goose bumps. Between the excellent prose, great pictures it really was an article, which, in my opinion anyway harked back to the days of fine automotive journalism. In many ways it reminded me of the articles Mel Nichols in CAR magazine. The cover of the magazine is wonderfully dramatic. Well done!
