Yes I know that full well it's just that it doesn't show in those photos. But if the engine and rest of the mechanicals have not been properly taken care I guess I understand. Perhaps if you don't want a perfect trailer queen it might be less?

Does anyone know what this Diablo GT sold for including premium at the Coys Auction?

 

I am finding that these days many are restoring not to make them perfect trailer queens, but specifically so they can be used reliably for the long-term.

 

Emilio, 100k Eu would be for a partial restoration or a refurbishment of some aspects of the car. For a full restoration think double-to-triple that.

 

Very good point, being these are not 10mil $ cars, nicely restored dd, 600k ,why not drive it? A new Aventador is very close to that nmbr, and tanking 75 k a year.at least the first 3 or so. How cool is it to drive a Countach instead,

 

If you'd like a little perspective, a client of mine restored his 250 GTO and not only drives it, he races it.

 

That is fantastic,lots of wiggleroom in a 30 million $ car,meaning the cars value is based on its market demand and collectirs willingness to pay, not the sum of its mechanical and or its actual cost to repair, one can hire very skilled craftsmen in the event of an accident, once its back up and running ,its the same Gto with a vin nmbr to match, beautiful thing

i have not seen the car in peson, only few pics: from the little i have seen the car is in needs of some serious works.
when i said 100k or more i really meant starting from 100k. i stopped here because i do not feel is fair to make a precise estimate without the full picture of the car conditions.

this said, i agree with you and Olivier a full resto on a countach is NOT cheap by any means.
this car deserves to be put back to its former glory and original colors

That could end up being even more expensive depending upon the model. It can mean remanufacturing and re-engineering the car if you truly want to drive it regularly AND reliably. Just cosmetics is far easier though expensive as well.

That is also a good point, i would personally put a lot of thoughts to the A/C system ,ducting ,airflow,routing of lines, and so on, also brakes and every day functions like windshield wipers ,head lights ,anyway Love my car, but have to admit it would be hard for me to restore and being 100% faithful to its original build,

Yes, and this one was JUST bought by Rawlings (owner of Gas Monkey) at the Texas Auction for $275K, less then a few months ago...guess he is looking to flip it.

It DOES have a reserve on it...which would figure to be around $300K plus just to break even.

Lots of 25th coming on the market these days. I doubt the monkey car brings $300K if one remains rational. I would not buy it at that much, but somehone who likes that show may pay the moon for it. Value is in the eye of the beholder when it comes to past ownership.

 

Most of them have been on the market for @ a year. When Gullwing had the car a year ago I posted about it http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/144067048-post2720.html then when Driversource had the car SCM ran it in its classifieds 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary coupe - Sports Car Market so its changed hands with 3 dealers in a year.

 

The "condition" of this car spoke to the price.

Both as I have seen it as well as another member here on the board that BOTH I and JOE have worked with.

He stated that it was "quoted" "As Joe would say, it was a nice restoration candidate."

Yet JOE you called it a FAR better car in your post, as you refer to it here.
YOU stated it was a

JOE, have you ever seen this car in person or inspected it?

Was wondering why two members here have a TOTALLY different reaction to the condition of this car then you. I think the two of us are pretty well qualified to describe a Countach as well as you are qualified as well. Just curious how the 'Written" description of this car by you as an "EXCELLENT ONE-OWNER...." can be so far off from the two of us. Just leads me to believe you never had a chance to first hand inspect it or view it....which if so, would lead to a in-accurate and baseless statement of a car you have no first hand knowledge of, at least that is my thoughts....

Bought by Richard Rawlings of Gas Monkey garage at Worldwide Auctioneers Houston Classic. Was previously at Driver Source. As Joe would say, it was a nice restoration candidate.

Though it was touted to be a well documented one owner car, I would call this a restoration candidate. I actually think Rawlings bought this car by accident as he was raising his hand for a lot of cars when they were at 50% of their value and just didn't understand the market on this one.

EXACTLY, and this would explain the price it got. He surely did not go $100K over the last "hand raised" for the car, (during the bidding) he went $5K above the last in increments as it was bid up.

So taking this, lets just go with the $265-$270K...with a 10% buyers fee..makes it out the door at $290K approx...AND it needed further work, was FAR from an "Excellent Example".

AS has been stated here over and over and over....the pubic has spoken...it SOLD for a price that represented it's condition and what it would take to make it a "quality" vehicle and truly an excellent example...not to mention it has what most consider HIGH MILES...

I agree that Rawlings "thought" he was getting a DEAL at $290K...based on today's market....but when he saw it and most likely went over the car...he decided the cost to get it right was more then he wanted to invest...so now it moves from a 4th "Dealer" on down the road. We just have to wait and see what happens at this next auction.

I think the asking prices I see of $375K and above for a 89/90 car, EVEN in 9.8 condition with low miles is out of range for the current market.

 

I agree this one should make a positive gain for the current seller/owner.

 

Blame it on that Miller Lite, lol. I think he buys the cars more for the show, than to make money. You could be correct though.
