Turned cold the last few days. I'm in a winter jacket when taking the dog out. Still had some ice cream last night.

My cousin married a South Asian girl. She told me last night only one or two really good Indian places. One was Gian something. Said in general Indian families tend not to go out and eat.

Turned partly cloudy and kind of muggy 80. Feel like ribs. I like them cold, going to get them early. As I'm making a stop at Lowes and getting supplies.

My neighbors kid (22/3 years old) races dirt bikes. They have a dirt track in their front yard. Guess some other kids have been using it. They been driving up and down the street. A neighbor complained and now the police are looking for the neighbors. They showed up at my door asking about them and if I've seen them riding on the street. I pled the fifth. Id rather have kids riding up a country back street with near zero traffic over coming out here to deal drugs! Cop agreed.

    Terminal D?

From everything I've heard, the Pappas restaurants are top notch. I've taken visitors to the Cantina. Never disappointed. I've been told by multiple people that their Steakhouse is fabulous.

With the temps heating up, at least before the thunderstorms moved in, I didn't want to heat up the kitchen. So, we did bagels and lox. Cream cheese, a few thin slivers of red onion, lox from Costco, a slice of tomato. Top with a little dill and fresh cracked pepper. Yummy...T

Went to my Dad's for family Sunday dinner. My sister cooked what looked like some really nice boneless pork loin chops. She breaded and fried them up then tossed them in the oven....apparently to finish dehydrating them!!??!! They tasted ok but being as lean as they were they REALLY dried out in the oven.

Salad with fresh lettuce out of my garden was good though. :)

    Pan fried? Deep fried?

Your sis sounds like my wife, all pork has to be cooked to well-done. Blech. As lean as most commercial pork is, this makes it too dry for me to enjoy.

I thought I read that mangalica was fattier, and so might hold up better to over cooking, but that's not an experiment I want to try with expensive pork. So, once a year, I harass her enough and we have Shake and Bake! :)

That's it, I'm putting you on ignore!! 😀
My stomach is now growling like a jaguar with diaper rash. That looks great.

Tonight, pot roast. Not really hot weather food, but the MIL wanted it. And, chuck roast was on sale at Kroger, so why the heck not.

Here it is early in the game: after searing the chuck roast, sweating veggies in the jus created by the searing process. Make sure to get all those good crusty bits off the side of the pot. Fond I think the French call it.

    Safe travels, Don!

    Pics not working now.

The only thing I like about Cuba and Thailand is the food and prices.

Pan fried. Yeah, they even order burgers or steaks well done. Of course she is one of those who will put ketchup on a steak too. Used to piss me off when I'd buy nice steaks to grill or something and then see her put ketchup on it. Now I just figure she is the one eating it not me.

It's funny how kids from the same family evolve eating and taste styles and preferences over the years. I mean we all pretty much grew up eating simple meat and potatoes together.

But I like trying new things. My middle sister is the same way but not my oldest sister, the pork dehydrator. :) She makes potato salad and it's literally potatoes, a little celery and mayo. That's it. I like simple sometimes but not quite that simple.

My little bro, the youngest is about somewhere between me and the middle sis. It's interesting. To me at least. :)

My immediate family is pretty much the same taste food wise. With a few minor differences. My older brother is a try anything food wise type. He enjoys weird things. My younger brother won't eat seafood period. For some reason he doesn't like any cooked Japanese dishes, or even non seafood filled rolls. So Japanese is out when we go out. The only things I won't eat is liver and ham.

I'm pretty adventurous as far as foods go. My grandma always encouraged us to try new things. And, the neighborhoods I grew up in Brooklyn were pretty diverse; growing up there was always something different brewing - Italian, Latino (except Mexican), Caribbean, Eastern and Central European, East Asian, etc. Probably the one major gap in my "training" was Southern food.

My Achilles heel is condiments though. I don't like most of the routine ones - ketchup, mustard, mayo, relish, etc. - except hot sauces and salsas.

Tonight is "empty the freezer" night. Slice or two of leftover homemade pizza, finish the last bit of pot roast, leftover pasta, etc. Knowing my ladies, they'll want the pizza & pasta and I'll end up with the pot roast...T

The sort of girlfriend. We have been more or less friends since elementary school. She doesn't like condiments at all. She orders 100% plain hamburgers, etc.

I like condiments. I'm a little angry Bick's is discontinuing red hamburger relish. It was part of my secret sauce for burgers.

Even though its raining felt like summer food. Had some scallops, baby shrimp and some king crab leftover from the other night. Pan seared the scallops, tossed in the shrimp and crab, little olive oil and some garlic. Tossed all in a bowl. Added a little more olive oil and some Mayo. Bought some Tortilla todays, beef tacos tomorrow. Used a wrap with some shredded cheese. Put on a cookie sheet with more olive oil. Baked in the oven until cheese was melted and the shell was toasted on both sides. Had some Mexican instant rice, made that as a side. Pretty good for an improvised seafood wrap.

I'm very bad with pics. I don't use my phone for internet. Don't like reading the small print or typing on it. So I forget to take pictures with it. I don't know how to upload from the phone to my laptop or desk top. I also forget to grab my Canon, easier to put pictures on my laptop. Just a pain to carry and dig out of the camera bag.

With the heat leaving the PNW and taking up its usual summer residence in Texas, it's time to start thinking of cold dinner ideas.

One simple, cool salad I like is tomato + cucumber. Add in feta cheese. A dash of salt, fresh cracked pepper, a whiff of garlic powder & dried parsley. Sprinkle of EVOO and balsamic. Mixy mix. Let sit in fridge.

That looks good, Tom! Any thing special planned for Father's Day?

I think I'll pick up some more USDA Prime to throw on the grill.

Thanks. Nothing special planned. My Pops passed on many years ago. Too bad, I'm sure he'd love a spirited ride in the 997.2S or the Cali. And, some prime steak!

Renovation nearly done. So, should be back home in two weeks, fingers crossed. I'm gonna go on a grilling and smoking binge. I have a rib roast in the freezer just waiting. Going to Kroger this weekend for a brisket. Insane prices, $2.19 / lb.

Post pics of your prime steaks, and have a great Father's Day. Ditto to all the dads out there in F-chat land. And, to all the sons out there, give your pops a ride in your cool ass cars.

On to the chilled cantaloupe soup, after another hour of work!

Cantaloupe soup, before and after, the stick blender.

One ripe cantaloupe, a small ripe mango (they're awesome of late), and a small peach. The other fruits have a bit more acid than the melon, which brightens things up. Squirt of lemon juice to forestall the Maillard reaction; I'd prefer lime, but no gots. And, the magic ingredient - a smidgen of good cinnamon. Chill in fridge...T

Did a quick Costco trip. Got a bag of frozen tuna steaks. They make excellent sandwiches. Grill them and then do a tuna melt. Maybe make a can of Campbell's chicken noodle soup.

Z, STOP!! Replace the chicken noodle with tomato and you're living large. Gotta fortify yourself against those brisk 50s F temps! ;)

Heat leaving the PNW indeed. Had to break a coat again yesterday. And we just finished a nice round of rousing thunderstorms. I'll take a little of the heat back please. :)

Your salad looks good. I grew up eating tomato salad. Yep, just tomatoes, some oil, salt& pepper and maybe a touch of basil. When you get good tomatoes it's sublime. And the best part? The part we all used to almost fight over when we were kids? The juice. Nothing better than soaking it up with a piece of good bread. Got my mouth watering now. I think I'll make this to go with dinner Sunday.

I'm going to hit Costco tomorrow to see if they have some good steaks to throw on Dad's grill. They were a big hit last time I did. I'm lucky, he'll be 80 in a couple months and still going strong. I enjoy the time I get to spend with him.

Happy Father's day to all you Dads out there. Enjoy the day whatever you do. :)
