456 Need help identifying this thing on the dash

    This is a picture of the dash next to the ignition key of my new to me 1999 456M GTA. The key is in place and in the exact center of the photo is a small hole ~1/2" in a round machined plate that is screwed into the dash. The picture is sideways so the key which is shown below the hole is actually to the left of it. Any help identifying/explaining is appreciated.

    I had to order a replacement several years back because I lent my car out to a production company shooting the pilot for a TV series and the actor playing the investment banker -owner stuck my key in it instead of the ignition and chewed the little bugger up trying to start the car! :rolleyes:
