Sky - why was Nico able to fix it, and Elton not? Cos Nico is intelligent..... That's it, Elton knows how to go fast but apart from that is as thick as two short planks as far as strategy and settings

    Interesting.

I think further study of car modes would be of benefit to Hamilton.

Tony to the rescue... of Tony. :D

    All the best,

Lauda on channel 4: "Nico had the same issue and guessed right to fix it, Lewis guessed wrong..........simple as that!".

After the race Lewis has said that he didn't change anything and all of the switches on the steering wheel that he controls were set where they should have been.

He said that basically, he had no ERS/KERS for most of the race - And then out of the blue, the car just fixed itself and he had full power again. He stated that he didn't change anything in the car in the end.

Hmmm... I wonder what subsequent analysis will reveal about that.

    All the best,

Red Bull's medium tyre choice was made due to excessive tyre wear on the softer tyres according to Christian Horner.

He stated that there was no way they could of got to the end of the race on the softer tyres without a lot more stops.

He also stated that once the medium tyres went on the cars, the car suddenly came alive, but they don't really know why the soft tyres were wearing too fast.

Ricciardo has also confirmed that the super-soft and the soft tyres were just wearing out too fast due to getting too hot for some reason that they need to investigate.

Mad Max has stated that after 3 laps on the super-soft and soft tyres, they were completely shot on the rear of the car and they just had wheel spin out of the corners.

Well, if the British were still building cars instead of doing money laundering at the City, maybe a British car manufacturer would be able to pay the salaries of the British crew who is building that German car.

Mercedes have now stated that Hamilton's car actually had it's problem before the start of the race, and that it was hidden so he would never have found it whilst driving as it was not due to him changing anything. They've described trying to fix it whilst racing as being like trying to do a crossword whilst driving at over 200mph.

They've also stated that Rosberg's issue was caused by him making a wrong selection on his switches as he drove the car and so it was easier for him to realise what was wrong and reset his car.

So Hamilton's issue was not his fault.
Rosberg's issue was his own fault.

There was some excitement during the race:

I'd short filled the kettle for a cup of tea and it was touch and go as to whether I'd have the mug, teabag and milk all sorted before the kettle boiled!

It was touch and go for a while, but in true F1 style, it all fell into place and went smoothly - Nice brew too! :)

The one built with German money.

You know how these things work: no money, no car.

Terribly boring race. Thanks for sharing your thoughts which to me were the highlights. I watched the feed in Italian here in Modena so unfortunately I couldn't understand most - but the italians were making everything seem exciting. :D

Not that it matters much, but Toto Wolff had a slightly different explanation on RTL Germany without giving a full explanation. He did say the issue was the electric power unit; not giving it's (full) power when needed and not charging when needed.

Also said the team could partly fix the problem before race start on Rosbergs car, so his issue was easier to fix during the race when it occurred.
An unexpected boring race by the way.

I fell asleep midway...guess nothing changed? Merc cruised to victory & the new team boss at Ferrari got 2nd by making his own strategy call!

Looks like Arrivabene won't be around much longer...

I'd say that somewhere between the two versions lies the truth!

Ask yourself this though, if both cars had the same problem, why would they only "partly fix" the one car? - I seriously doubt they only have one set of mechanics who could carry out the required partial fix.

Bottom line: Mercs have reliability problems almost every race, affecting Hamilton most of the time but Rosberg as well. The car is nowhere near as reliable as we thought after winter testing.

As I said during the race, Hamilton had the right to be pissed if he's driving a broken car yet again.

One wins as a team, one loses as a team.

Lewis can count himself very lucky (or in his words; #Blessed) with the phenomenal car he has at his disposal. It gave him two WDC's.

I think their reliability issues are showing that they're starting to feel the pressure from Ferrari and Red Bull and are now having to push things more to the limit than they had to before.

All damage limitation to not upset the chosen one. Nico never mentioned a problem, and he was driving at the start!
