Actually I don't have a single 1/18 yet but about 8 in 1/43 as well as smaller scales.

I had one done as Khamsin spyder a few years ago as well (photo below) and would love to buy the wooden one shown in the page below:)

    Hi all,

the subject of engine oil has been discussed several times within this forum but I am just curious what your experiences are with the substitute you have been using after the discontinuation of Agip Sint 2000.

What brand and viscosity of oil is the most recommendable one for our precious engines?

    happy driving,

    Rolf

If it is matching numbers I think the correct engine number should be AM115/10/49.0371, not AM120.371.

Is that a hole in the body on the left side, under the door? When it was for sale at the 08 Mar 2016 Coys Spring Classics Auction the car was very dirty on the photos but now it is cleaner.

It sure looks like this Khamsin is missing part of its rocker panel.

According to the auction house description "This most extensive restoration is fully documented by bills and correspondence in the history file". Therefore I must assume the missing chunk of rocker panel is not that important :)

Interesting that only one photo clearly shows the left side, all other side photos are of the right side. Must be coincidence.

The rocker panel issue is annoying in view of the catalog description and photo choice and so is the car's reappearance in a second auction so soon after the first one this year. The speculator doing this either has a financial problem forcing him to resell the car or has not done too much thinking; the people wanting a K just a few weeks ago are the same who want one now and I doubt the fact that the car was cleaned up will change what it is bid too. Due to its dubious past and condition I would certainly walk away from this one. By the way it did not sell at an H&H auction back in 2002.

    Best regards,

    Marc

I thought you guys would know the true history of this car.
By the way, referring to the earlier posts regarding the models, I have a Minichamps 1:43 scale Khamsin and have just ordered the 1:18

    Hello all,

Richard this car has remained tucked away most of its life not attending events which is why little is known about it, as was the case until now for another car which has just been listed up for auction: Am120146 which is a lot in the Artcurial Le Mans Classic auction in a month:

    Le Mans Classic 2016*by Artcurial Motorcars - Sale N° 2929 - Lot N° 117 | Artcurial

I have never met this car, I had been told by a client of the Tissier shop that they took care of a K, I had received the owner's email but had never gotten around to emailing him but now most of the history is in the catalog bio (English text under the French one). It has long been one of those cars that remained hidden away in France and may have been auctioned by Artcurial many many years ago, I recall a catalog from probably the 80's with this car, will find out.
Black on black is quite rare...but according to the Thepenier records I got from Frederic Doniot it was not its original color: which was argento (silver), though the interior was black new. It was delivered June 24 1975 to the LOOK (ski equipment) company or Mr Beyl. The engine was fully rebuilt in 1978 and the dash converted to fully black.

It will be interesting to see it up close in a few weeks but it looks like a good car.

    Best regards,

    Marc

    Sorry it should read:

to the LOOK (ski equipment) company OF Mr Beyl.

He was the CEO and also, I think, the founder.

I saw the car at Coys. Its in a poor state and has probably sat for a long time. Its probably a fair price at the lower end of the range

    Hi Rich

I know the car quite well, it's been in long term ownership by a guy who lives near me. Up until about a year ago it was getting rather tired - the owner just didn't spend enough money on it to keep it in tip-top condition, however a lot of money has been since been put into the car and it's now a reliable driver. The body is good and structurally sound, engine has had a rebuild, but the interior is a little grubby (the last time I saw it before Xmas). It had a lot of electrical issues but these have been resolved (I know because the local garage spent hours studying my own Khamsin to rectify all the old bodges, etc!).

The owner doesn't need the cash so I doubt he'll let it go 'cheaply' - but it's a good base for someone who wants to spend a bit extra to bring it to the next level.

Regarding the Minichamps models, I have purchased both sizes, the 1:43 in silver and the 1:18 in the brown. They are rather nice. Would recommend them.

PS latest fuel leak update- I have removed the tank earlier this evening. It looks like it is in quite good condition, would appear to be leaking from the copper crush washers...
As it is out I will give it a bit of an overhaul- the inside looks ok- from viewing with a torch inside the fittings.
    Cheers Rich

    Hello Marc

certainly you have heard of the sale of many of the cars of the Riverside Museum
including the yellow one you are so fond of!!

In a blog posted 2011 at

    Tamerlane's Thoughts: Maserati collection mega-gallery

there are Pictures of some cars I do not see in the list of those beeing sold.
specifically there is one red Khamsin, that I do not know of.
Have you any idea about that one? Euro car or US ?
And will those cars be sold separately?

    Regards, Roger

    Hi Roger!

Yes and I am sure you have read the other 2 threads about the auction.

Regarding the red K it is AM120US1282 a very late US car, Doug never owned it but he kindly allowed Los Angeles area Maser enthusiasts to store their projects in a warehouse just across the street from the museum as was the case for this one. Below his answer are notes about the car's past prior to that. These cars are not at all involved with the auction since they were not owned by Doug.

Here is Doug's answer from 2011:

    K 1282 data

Spotted in Doug Magnon’s Riverside museum « back room » in fall of 2011.

    Hi Marc,

The VIN is below. This Khamsin has traded hands a couple times and is in my place for storage (I've never owned this or several other Masers listed on the blog). Keep me informed on the Khamsin gathering!

    Best,

    Doug

Was owned in Clarksville TN by a teacher at Austin university for a while.

Doug was kind enough to let me store cars in the next door building adjacent to the museum. The red khamsin was one of them.

Fantastic find Jeremy, I just had a braingasm:)

That is definitely Khamsin living and that young lady is bespoke Khamsin driver or passenger material:)

Odd that they used a US K in a commercial filmed in France (and perhaps Monaco harbor). It could well be St Tropez airfield and harbor though.

I have somewhere a photo of a magazine 1 page ad done at the sametime with the box of cigarettes on the front bumper, I can't find it but posted it here several years ago.

    Thanks for this:)
