Automobiles Classiques magazine's February - March 1987 issue features a article on Gandini's design masterpieces, among them the Countach & the Miura. A 1987 Downdraft is featured Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Any proof that a Downdraft was delivered to a customer before Barry Robinson collected his on March 12th 1985? He collected his car the same week as the Geneva Salon when the Downdraft variant launched, so he must have been one of the first to receive one, if not the first. Image Unavailable, Please Login
We know Barry Robinson's car UK-registered B 888 MLN and then BR 33 was FLA12803, anyone know what chassis number this very early car UK-registered B 967 MLN was? Image Unavailable, Please Login
The front caliper rebuild has begun. The ATE brakes and disks were removed, calipers completely disassembled, sandblasted and now are being zinc plated yellow. Next week the disks will be machined ever so slightly, balanced and the calipers rebuilt with new seals. The master cylinder has already been rebuilt with new seals and the brake fluid reservoir was given a though cleaning but without using any form of detergent, only warm water for fear of contamination. I am considering the silicon brake fluid which does not absorb humidity and does not require changing every few years (DOT 5 rating), any comments? I took advantage of the rebuild to give a good cleaning of the front suspension and wheels. It is good to make certain that everything is in good order. Took advantage to clean and inspect the wheels. I had the wheels balanced and power-coated in 1999 and the finish is still perfect. The build date of the wheels is 1984 (DD build date April ’86). Note the black wheel emblems, I also have a new silver set but I prefer the black. I do not recall if originally the metallic silver paint was also on the backside of the rim, mine is dull grey. can someone confirm? Incredible care & attention to detail, and equally importantly, thanks for sharing. I'll let you know about the brake fluid choice.
A mystery to me too. I asked this in post #121 (wow, that was a while ago). I think it is the same car, but I have nothing to substantiate this.
Robert, Good to have you back. If you don't know, who does?! I finally did a little checking in the archives and I came up with B 967 MLN being FLA12807, first registered on April the 26th 1985. Does this agree with your notes? This makes sense as FLA12803 went to Barry Robinson as I believe possibly the first customer car, and around the same time Keke Rosberg got FLA12808. The car Geno sold last year that went to Robert Rusie was FLA 12806, also a very early car.
Robert whilst you are around, can you confirm the former UK-registered 32 WKK? I think we have the answer posted somewhere and I think its the black/black with red piping DD that spent time in the Bentley Museum, right? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Another car I'm curious about is this 88.5 seen @ Goodwood with EE.615.AK plates on it when just arrived from Italy. If memory serves this went to Brian S who collected it at Sant Agata Image Unavailable, Please Login
Lastly, this 1985-87 Downdraft UJK-registered LMN 455 with gold wheels in a collection in the Midlands Thoughts on which one? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Fantastic series of period images by Snapper & circa 1989 of Portman Lamborghini's West London (Ealing) Service Center, a place I frequented as I had my first DD serviced there at the time. JLA12396 (black) and HLA12065 (red) can be seen amongst other cars. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
