    A good friend found this photo in his late fathers things.

    The other cars in the photo indicates Australia in the late seventies or early eighties (my best guess).

    I done recognize the origin of the number plate, can anyone help.

    I wonder if its my 75 # 281.

    Viper Green 1976 Turbo, chassis # 9306700029. Black leather, Pirelli P7's, non-optioned A/C and non-optioned sunroof. Another early RoW 1976 Turbo with 1975 owner's manual... most likely has DGM on the trunk chassis plate if it was not removed during U.S. EPA/DOT conversion. No affiliation.

    I think that most people would agree that Gooding is top of the heap. Having said that they take only the very best consignments and are very aggressive on reserves. Where you fall in the sales order can be critical, running late in the sale on Sunday night is not where you want to be. RM always a strong contender, then Bonhams. Don't rule out Mecum.

    So it ain't exactly Sophie's choice, but I've decided to sell #470 Turbo Carrera. I listed it in FC and rennlist classifieds first. Huge Flickr collection linked in ad. I have loved researching, restoring then driving this car, but my '78 3.3 restoration is coming to completion, and I think when I do driving tours in '16-'17 I'll prefer the power and brakes of the later car. The '76 is absolutely the connoisseur's Turbo, but I can't keep 'em all!

    Yes fun piece but certainly piling on the 'widow maker' mystique ! It started early, and now every piece written on the turbocarrera has devolved into hagiographic notoriety. My 930 reading started in 1975 when I was 15 so this isn't a fresh observation. But long before I drove a 3L for the first time, I raced 911s and cup cars for many years, and owned numerous 911/993street cars, so I have experience with the chassis at its limits. When I finally drove a TC, I wondered what all the fuss was about. Yes the lag is laughably lengthy by today's standards, but when full HP arrives it just isn't that much. Could it be that the reputation was really driven by the later 3.3 cars which had more hp and worse weight distribution due to lengthier transaxle?
    Am I the only one who thinks you'd really have to work to get into trouble w the 3?

    I'm with you- my 77 will get a little sideways coming on full boost going around a corner but it's not completely stock. Compared to the muscle cars I grew up driving they seem very tame to me. Get on one the first generation fast 2 cycle Kawasaki road bikes and give the grip a good twist - that will get your attention.

    I think it is all about putting things in perspective. In 1975 our muscle cars had maybe 160hp due to emissions requirements. They were pretty much emasculated back then. Also, the buyers of the 930 were mostly doctors or lawyers. A 930 with a 3ldz was a much different animal compared to what people were driving back then. Remember, turbos on street cars were very rare back then. We have the benefit of 40 years of history and driving cars with high hp these days.
