Pelican Forums--very active, lots of technical and for sale threads. Not so much the collection aspect of the cars. I'd say 60% of it concerns pre-964 911s and the others (9x4 models) Owned by Pelican Parts

Rennlist--very active, similar setup and activity type but seems to cater to higher-end or more recent models. Not sure who owns it.

A few other model-specific ones but those two are the main beats.

Rennlist is owned by Internet Brands. 6speedonline is another one owned by IB. Porsche-centric for sure but not solely Porsche.

Each forum has it's own personality. Pelican is for guys that like to do their own work. Rennlist is for newer stuff, but less hands on, more look at this. Ferrarichat attracts a person interested in the finer details of originality. Early911Sregistry is a mix of all the above (minus the modern stuff). All are worthwhile.

Ill echo what others have said:

Renlist more of the water-cooled crowd, less hand on types
Pellicanparts, air-cooled crowd, more hands on.
6speedonline has a huge Pcar presence but I see a lot of the Rennlist crowd on there and vice versa.

Pelican and Fchat loads fast, has less banner ads. Rennlist and 6speedonline both load slow and get stuck with the little 'pinwheel' spinning probably due to banner ads but everyone except Fchat allows you to use an outside photo hosting site.

From a user perspective it would be great if Fchat allowed third party picture hosting. Thats the only 'negative' here.

Richard Scott owns Rennlist and 6speedonline, Wayne Dempsy owns Pelican parts. Further info can be found looking up their websites here:

Whois Domain Lookup Search - Whois Lookup: Find Who Registered a Website, Check Domain Name

Rennlist has about 80 million page views a month.

that's actually a huge positive of FerrariChat, I know we're only one doing it, but we're only one that got it right. they all really ****ed up on that one.

Vertical Scope owns both of those, thus the ads and slowness. Vertical Scope also just lost usernames and logins to 45 million accounts from hacker.

    https://www.leakedsource.com/blog/verticalscope

I find that hard to believe because we have similar number of posts and we only have 4-5mm page views a month.

    June 2016: Rennlist 80,552 FerrariChat 57,499

For some reason posts at 6speedonline have fallen off a cliff.

I concur on Pelican and Rennlist. I'm on both, but spend more time on Pelican. Interestingly, FChat has the best resource thread for 930s!

ROB, You are correct I ment to post 80k mot 80mil.

As far as the picture hosting issue, thats your call and this site loads faster and is easier to navigate than the Pcar sites.

I'm sure their page views are higher than ours, so maybe 8mm?

Sorry, I was trying to bait you last night. Advantages of upload vs. IMG tags.

    1) Images are never lost when host changes or user losses account. I knew from beginning that FerrariChat would be a historical archive and we would want to keep those images around forever.

    2) we get zero DMCA threats or thousand dollar ransoms for images they claim protected. by making images registered view only the bots can't see them.

    3) by forcing registration to view images it drives new users.

no, Porsche section here has been fine. it is impossible to start new forums these days and get critical mass unless something new (like drone forums have been killing it).

I agree with Pete: 930 thread is the most informative and active out there for both the 3.0 and 78-79 3.3. I frequent rennlist often for the 928 section; it would be difficult to compete with the wealth of knowledge there if that was even a consideration. Pelican mostly for classifieds...

No worries. And thank YOU for taking the time to further explain the picture hosting stance. That make perfect sense.

Im a subscribed member both here and on Rennlist. I notice that speed is the same for me on both forums. Maybe being subscribed gets rid of the ads that slow things down?
