Basically, yeah, with teriyaki and sriracha on it. This was last night's tri tip with rosemary sea salt and a ginger garlic paste rub. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Meh, looks ok I suppose. If you like that kind of stuff that is. Oh, and yeah I DO like that kind of stuff.
Have a large number of relatives, parents, aunt and uncle, two brothers, etc. My Dad and uncle have gone to Bellevue to pick up a TV my uncle bought at Best Buy online. He specified Bellingham pick up. But he hit Bellevue by mistake. Works out well because I'm having them check out Howie steaks. We did Chinese take out last night for the SIL. Tonight grilling some chicken breasts. Making pesto, even though my aunt purchased a jar of pesto sauce. Make some linguine as a side, toss in some shrimp, king crab meat and scallops. Put some pesto on the chicken. Should be good. Top tip don't try and get a pool company in during the start of the season and into early summer. Man they are busy.
Going to be smoking in the BGE today and tomorrow. Already have chicken and salmon brining away in the fridge and baby backs on standby.
Wow, what a feast! Google Maps says 90 miles from Bellevue to Bellingham. That's a whopping mis-click. Your tip reminds me of one, pray you don't need an A.C. guy this time of the year in Texas. 😀 Man cannot live on grilling alone, plus I wanted to test out our new stove. Simple angel hair pasta with tomato sauce and sardines. Add to the sauce, healthy quantities of garlic, as much red pepper flake as you can stand, oregano, and (don't tell the wife) a few drops of ghost pepper hot sauce. 🔥 Blitz with a stick blender. Pour over pasta. Enjoy. T
I'll be interested in hearing about the experience of John Howie. I have heard nothing but good things about it but I still have yet to make the trek over to try it out. I was gonna cook up the prime cap steak for dinner tonight but was busy doing a bunch of other stuff today and ended up going with an old standby....Serrano ham, some olives, some cheese and some good bread. So here is a top tip that I may or may not have posted before..... take a loaf of bread, even if fresh, and run it under the faucet for a second or two then toss it in a nice hot 350+ degree oven for 10-30 minutes. Will be the best, hotest, sexiest bread you have had!!!!
Dang it. They had dinner there instead of buying. We did have A/C go out middle of August in Arizona. Took a few weeks to get fixed. Here it touches 90 most days from now until Sept. But cools off at night. A/C would be nice, but most people don't have it in older homes. Further inland the hotter it gets. A/C becomes more common. Same with Seattle. The store could have sent it into Bellingham. But my Dad has a friend in Bellevue and took the opportunity to visit them.
Burgers on Canada Day weekend. Yummy. We're planning on burgers on the grill, but likely salmon burgers...T
They liked the dinner at Howie's. Better then Ruth Chris and our higher end Canadian chain Hy's. My uncle put the stop on buying take out steaks. His point we could buy several T-bone family packs at Safeway for less money.
CHX details please? I just bought a cast iron griddle for outside so some fish will be happening soon.
All right, cheap t-bone steak at Unc's house! I like a cheap steak as much as the next, but how are they at Safeway? I like cheap (Select grade) steaks from Kroger. I usually rifle through the freezer cases at the different Krogers in our area when they're on sale, to see if any look better than the rest...T
Yes, details! 😀 Darth - you've mentioned a cast iron grill (I think it fit Weber kettles) in the past IIRC. Now that I'm back in ny own home, I'd like to get one either for my 22.5" or (preferably) 18" Weber. If you have a recommendation, I'd appreciate it very much...T
Excellent! Thank you, kind sir. Couldn't find with search functionality. That's the lead I needed. 😀 I see from old post that you have it on a Performer? So that's a 22" setup. Hmm. Craycort site says 18.5", but my small kettle is 18". Gotta do some research to see if it'll fit my old 18" kettle. Sweet! Smokey Joe - conflagration! Salmon burgers. Serve them up with slice of avocado, slice of tomato and hot sauce. On white bread (no buns, oops). With mashed taters (embarrassingly, from a box, the wife loves them, no idea why). And, a good chardonnay. Bon apetite...T
Safeway is not bad. About an Outback or equal steak place. Costco is better. My house growing up was the entire family go to place. Now mine is the place for everyone. Blast it! Second time this week I've twisted my ankle walking the dog. Stepped in a hole and tumbled down. Not badly. Still hurts.
That's not bad as long as the price is commensurate with quality. Kroger rib eyes are $5.99/lb when they have a good sale, and I'll pick up a three pack, which is three meals since neither the wife nor I can eat a whole one. This week, $7.99/ lb. Pass. At that price, for a few bucks more it's worth getting prime beef @ Costco. Our place used to be the go to place for parties for co-workers, but after doing that for a few years, no one ever reciprocated. 😠 And so with my mother in law's condition and the dog barking at everyone, we just decided it was time to stop. Hope your ankle feels better soon...T
Had a Piedmontese Rib Eye tonight, with hash browns. Piedmontese are Italian Beeves. I inhaled it too fast to get a pic. We have had real nice Piedmontese meats from Heartland Meats of IL, who vend at a local farmers market on the weekend. Yesterday was some turkey/veggie burgers. Mixed in carrots, shrooms, hemp hearts, garlic, lemon juice. Color brought to you by Turmuric. One lost some bark in the flipping. Cherry wood smoked, and I used the wood's soak water to keep the moisture up in the grill. Image Unavailable, Please Login
😒 Actually, I do need to use my 22.5" kettle more. It's been largely dedicated to rotisserie duty. Also, I was watching a few YouTube videos of the Craycort in action and thought the extra space would be a good thing since the CI in the direct zone is likely scorching hot. Set up a two zone fire, sear it on the cast iron over direct heat, then finish indirect. OK, I'm convinced! 😀😀
Would have loved to see pics of the Piedmont beef. I think that's what they use for Florentine style steak. Any burger with a lot of veggie content seems to be a sticky pain on grill grates. I use a griddle if I'm doing veggie burgers. Looks tasty! T
This weeks Safeway deal was bone in ribeye for $12.99 per lb. Biggest reason I go to Safeway, its the closest to the border near my house.
Duplicate post from charcoal/smoker thread... Another pic, before putting it in foil. Temp stalled, so I needed to ramp things up. Overall, only an hour or two in the foil, so not bad, to get it to 205 F, whereupon I took it off, and started to rest. Missing bit was for the chef and assistant (four legged) chef to taste test to assure quality control. Couple of slabs sliced from the flat. T
