Mercedes won't impose team orders on Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg | F1 News

So the two gladiators can continue racing. With rules of engagement which are not disclosed.

Lewis has said he will continue racing as he has always done

Nicole said he accepts the stewards decision in Austria but does not agree with it ,he still maintains it was not his fault.

I think this will tip the balance in favour of Lewis,as Nicole seems to struggle in close combat conditions.

Meanwhile Pascal W is watching from the sidelines, licking his lips.Nicole has huge pressure now ,earning the highest salary ever as a 'No2' driver.

Nicole did a great job as wing man for Lewis in previous years, now he has mounted a serious challenge in 2016,which he deserves credit for.

MB must be working on moving Pascal in sooner than later.Bit like the Kyvat/Max thing.

    Agree.
Gladiators ... got to be kidding right! If their car was not miles ahead of the rest, we wouldn't even know they were on the grid.

Hamilton is the problem at Mercedes, not Rosberg.

After 2 WDCs at Mercedes, Hamilton thinks he is bigger than the team, and criticises its management.

Rosberg has shown nothing but loyalty, beside, he is as fast as Hamilton, collect poles, points and wins.

I cannot see Wehrlein stepping in Rosberg car and do better than him.

I agree, but Mercedes has to do something with their drivers or else they are going to take each other out.

+1 you let go a winning points collecting driver????
Kimi's job is in question not Nico's, as far as major seats opening potentially.

    Yes, of course.

Mercedes should use team orders to protect its interest on the track.

Intense rivalry between team mates only leads to incidents where the team loses points.

Who ever in the team gets a better position on the grid shouldn't be attacked at the start.

Who ever gains an advantage on the track shouldn't be overtaken by his team mate towards the end of the race.

When the title could still be mathematically lost, the driver with less points should not challenge the other driver, but collect points for the team.

Yes Nicole has been loyal to the team mostly, kind of a lovable labrador type.He can run with the pack but now he is starting to nip at Lewis' (Doberman?) heels. The outcome is predictable.

It all depends on how long they extend Nicole for,1 year just to give them time to fully evaluate Pascal,3 would be a big gamble for Mercedes if they believe Pascal is the better long term prospect.

How is it that Wehrlein is a driver for Manor, but did some testing for Mercedes in May?

I believe they put him into Manor in exchange for giving Manor access to the MB wind tunnel, and a few other goodies. So they can evaluate him in F1 before moving him over to MB.He is Toto's latest and greatest.

    +1

Gets beaten far too often in quali by an -at best- average driver (never won feature GP2 race, only reverse grid sprint races). Hell, at best he's had a feature race podium (one!) in all his years in F1.

He should be absolutely slaughtering Haryanto but he's not doing that. Got into Q2 last week and whatever, did a decent lap but only half a second up on his teammate.

Good driver but nothing special. To be the 2nd coming some herald him as he needs to do a whole lot more, and needed to have done a whole lot more in the past.

Ordinarily maybe, but he will start getting hit with engine penalties in the second half of the season because of the problems he had early on.

To be fair maybe Haryanto is unexpectedly good. Hard to compare when they've only driven against each other. When it was Nico and Michael, people talked down Michael's comeback because he was getting beaten by Nico. Now we know Nico is about as fast as Lewis in quali.

A win here means nothing if Nico comes back and wins in Germany before the summer break. There's a lot of racing to be had though I do find it remarkable Hamilton is as close in the championship as he is given how rough his season started.

Seen him drive in GP2 for a long time...trust me. Nothing special.

Unless both of them gained magic racing super powers in the last year....;)

Mercedes Benz, the corporation, wants TV cameras on its cars. If both cars are racing hard for the win that is what the cameras will show. On the other hand if the two cars are just playing follow the leader 30 seconds in front of the rest of the pack the cameras will be on some back markers who are actually still racing for positions.

I seem to remember Toto Wolfe whining about that very thing a while ago. Don't kid yourselves, MB's decision to "let them race" isn't based on some altruistic "for the good of the sport" BS. It's about giving the parent company the most bang for its sponsorship buck.

Ham fans - don't impose rules and let them race. Nico fans - impose rules and protect overall team position. Mmmm.
