I recently got offered a 488 brand new at msrp from someone who cancelled there order won't say what dealer, but if you have a good relationship with that dealer there are plenty of cancels. I turned down since I have a 650s and 458... I can't lose the emotion and sound of the 458 because the 650s lacks that

650S, Huracan, GT3RS, Turbo S, GTR to name but a few, all cars I would rather have
    than the puny engined 488..

Mod potential is much more limited for the 488, at least
    exhaust-wise, turbos will do that..

I was a the dealer ordering my car today and they were delivering a 488 Spider. The new owner fired it up and we all had a smile on our faces. They will be fine. Side by side on the floor I would have taken any 488 over the 458. Everyone has an opinion.

Don't tell my dealer, but I'll likely only own one Ferrari, the 458 I bought a couple months ago.

When I was a kid we had a picture of a Lamborghini Countach in a common room in high school, and I thought, someday...

When I saw the Italia when it was introduced I thought the same way, but someday is now. I don't give a **** about speed or sound, anything, just the feeling when I look at the car.

This is why IMO the 488 will be the most flipped modern Ferrari high production vehicle. Chip wars with common street vehicles for fast ET times dissolves the specialness away quickly. Add plastic manifolds and crappy sound and, well, there you go. I'm no 488 'hater' just staying convinced it was the wrong way to go for the brand from an enthusiast's viewpoint. Let's watch the turnover over the next 1.5 years and see if I'm right.

Could not sum up my thoughts better; and let's not forget that a big
percentage of Fcar owners are true enthusiasts.

I think its the reason that the Mac is turned over so fast, the 488 is now in that category. I love the new car but do feel it might have lost the specialness previous models had.

You have no idea how turbocharged systems work do you? An aftermarket exhaust on a NA car will get you 10-15 hp gain over a thousand rpm or so. On a turbo car, you would get 30-40 hp gain over 2-3 thousand rpm. Combined with a tune (taking advantage of all that extra exhaust gas to increase boost), you're looking at an 80 hp total bump for very little money.

I don't want a 488 (wish Ferrari had kept developing high reving NA engines like Lamborghini), but saying mod potential is less for a 488 is just ignorant.

How do you think all these ricer hondas are rolling around with 800 hp? Huge turbos and fart-can exhausts....duh.

Exactly. The whole essence of tuning a Ferrari road car is modding the sound to perfection. Sound and looks has always been THE thing for Ferrari road cars. They have not been the fastest on the market yet everyone loved them.

If it's speed and having bragging rights that you can go around Fiorano in 0.5 seconds faster then perhaps a challenge car would be more suitable and a Nissan GTR for the road use as having the highest hp clearly matters to the "ricer" community

Funny I just roll raced a full bolt on E85 GTR and my old AMS tunes Mclaren 12c with my new 488 stock. To my surprise I beat the Mclaren and was dead even from 20mph-135mph with the GTR (we both braked). The 488 is extremely fast for a stock car and it has HUGE mod capabilities (much more than any NA car).

The 488 also looks awesome , sounds good and still feels great and like a Ferrari. For all the negative people on the forum I'd say please drive the car (extensively) before passing judgment . I own and have owned many exotics and the 488 is one of my all time greats so far. It's better IMO in almost everyway than the 458 (still own). In fact I find myself grabbing the keys to the 488 much more often. Ferrari had to switch to forced induction to stay competitive and meet new standards. It was the right choice.

And for those people on here saying that the 488 isn't in high demand and it won't hold its value because it's a turbo or because it can be modded I also call bull****! There are plenty of cars that have been modded through the years (Gtr , Porsche tt, Ford GT ) that have held their values pretty well to great. I was concerned about the 488 too before I took delivery and have spent the last 7-8 weeks testing it and driving it. I can say with confidence it has exceeded my expectations !! Bravo Ferrari

It appears the people who actually own both the 458 and the 488 prefer the 488. The people who bash the 488 generally have never owned one.

Interestingly the biggest bashers of the 488 bought their 458 used and spent a lot of time and money modding it.

The ability to do mods on the 488 are way beyond the 458. It would be a fairly easy mod to get 800+hp out it with a new chip and some turbo mods.

The point of the thread, and its a very valid one, is that less than 6-8 months after first USA deliveries (pease correct if I'm wrong), there are a number of 488s that you can just walk in and buy. That didn't happen with 458s, 430s, or 360s.

The question is why? The car has been well reviewed, there isn't massive complaints about the appearance, and the performance seems to meet expectations.

There is even a number of 458 owners who are opting for a Huracan rather than a 488. I can't remember a time when a 430 owner bought a Gallardo over a 458.

    Well obviously LOL

As for those who own one, they seem way too busy trying to justify spending the
    GNP of a small country...

Depends on the market. In SoCal you can't get a 488 just walking in. Longish lines still.

While I love the 458 and contend it sounds the best, I can't deny the 488 is a very good ferrari. There are a few die hards clinging to the CS as it is THE best sounding despite being archaic and slow, relatively speaking. Go back and you have similar to a 355.
A hardcore group loves the sound and feel more than newer and less involving. That's ok, everybody wins!

I think the reason why these cars are available 6 months after delivery is because the Spider came out 6 months after the GTB. These cars are being flipped for the Spider. With the 458 there was about a 1 1/2 wait for the spider hence you didn't see those cars available for a while. Just my opinion...All I know is the 488 is definitely different than the 458, but the turbo response is no comparison and so much better than the 12C I used to own.

I think used 488 will have six figures drop when the hardcore version (Speciale or Scuderia) is released.

What did happen with the 458? How long was it before it was available at MSRP on the resale market?

In the end, I ordered one and don't give a **** about the resale or flippers and will consider the cost of ownership in smiles per hour. I wanted a GTB so I am glad they are easier to get. I still have to wait a year for it but was able to order it at MSRP. If the values do drop, perhaps more people will start driving them as they should which would be a positive in my mind. I guarantee you, mine will have a great deal of miles on it year one.

Yah, sorry you are wrong on this. My first 430 was a 2006 car and there were a number of them available over MSRP with low miles when I bought mine new. This was in the housing market heyday with lots of "paper millionaires" and real estate millionaires everywhere. Dealers were making hand over fist money selling new cars at MSRP, buying them back for MSRP after 3 months and selling them for 30-50K over within a week. Because FNA forbids dealers from selling cars new over MSRP this game has been going on for a long time. Some dealers are worse than others (I won't mention names) Don't think this is the case in Europe or elsewhere.
