Just so we can say we've given this a fair shake, here's what the engines of the 488, 458 Italia, and 458 Speciale look like (in that particular order). I'm generally partial to things that are larger, more round, and composed of genuine type materials. And I'm generally averse to things that are flat and/or fake. Freudian slip intended, of course. Needless to say, my preference increases in the order of appearance. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
It not about competitors it just the prices have gotten outrageously overpriced. $400k with taxes in for a twin turbo v8? haha.
hey gotta love some lipstick Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
this whole forum is ruined because a few people cant stay on topic, they just need to hate..... i hope they like the looks of the rear end of a 488
I see your point, but the 458 came standard with black plastic. I'm assuming everyone on here knows that. So, let's not forget what the 488 looks like with the carbon fiber options. Pretty damn impressive, actually. If you hate the matte black finish, then ante up. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Beautiful pictures, thank you! I reale like the "organic" designed engine bay, and the carbon emphasizes this powerful design. You can see what this car has; endless power and torque.
no hate here just opinions: it's a forum, destined to display the latter; incidentally, rather than hate I mostly sense defensiveness on the part of several 488 owners when a comparative comment is made..
If you see a 458 and 488 side by side, it is remarkable how much lower in the car the engine in the 488 is located. This is one of the reasons that the handling of the 488 is significantly better than the 458 (with same tires), even though the 458 handles extremely well.
Is it really placed lower or is the empty space in the engine bay a result of the engine being smaller? Seems like the 458 series cars' engines could not be placed any lower in the engine bay due to their size.. best
The center of gravity of the 488 is definitely lower. Of course, that is in part attributable to the fact that the 488 engine is smaller and, in particular, shorter than the 458 engine.
458trofeo, seriously, does it matter why it sits lower? Talk about grasping at straws. A lower center of gravity (and tidier, more streamlined and modern engine bay) should appeal to any sportscar nut. And CF dressing is a must, IMHO, in any of these cars. What's a few thousand "quid" in a $300-400K car? I have an F12 and love the sound of NA Ferrari engines. That doesn't mean the 488 isn't cool as hell, and a marvel of engineering. I've never heard your upgraded 458 engine but I'm sure it's spine tingling, too. Plenty of room for all these blessings. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
"Puny engined" yet all of the cars you listed make less power than the 488 and 3 of the 5 are 6 cylinders. LOL thanks for the laughs
+1, enjoy your F12, hey check out this vid out, could listen to those downshifts ad infinitum https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bizhy5bUlTY
Actually, the downshifts in the 488 sound great and are noticeably faster than in the 458. The engine makes great "chuffing" sounds on trailing throttle, and those are amplified on downshifts. I find myself constantly throwing in downshifts, even when they aren't needed
