tdf...love affair

I didn't expect the car to be this brutal.

You reach the corner too fast you hope you made the right move.

This happens all the time I drive the car.

Before I get in, I say to myself 'just keep cool and no over do anything!'

Then I start the car and get out on street and say 'okay, weather is good and road is empty so just let me taste a little bit not too much just a little...'

Next moment I realize I am going too fast.....

It just wouldn't let you drive nice and calm.

It begs you to push it little further.

Then all of a sudden you are in the wrong turn at the wrong speed.

Thank God for rear steering!!!!

After about 15 to 20 mins, I retire myself to garage....

It is exhausting and I am happy it is over.

This hardship makes the next drive more appealing but again at the same time more fearsome about if I can make it back safe again.

This car belongs to race track.

It is already over my skill level.

At first, I was disappointed about tire grip.

As I drive along, I am now more thankful of lack of grip since if I do, it would have been rather more difficult to control the car or myself.

I love this car for its performance but hate the fact that I can not use it the way I did with all the other GT Ferraris, but then I love it more for this fact.

In other words, this car does nothing I would hope my perfect dream car should do and for that, all the more, I feel this is the closest to my perfect dream car.

It is like love, an irony.

grats! i agree the car is super angry! i think it goes down similarly to the f40 turbos -- car wants to kill the inexperienced driver. but it is fantastic how it attacks corners. and of course the sound ... under heavy acceleration is... tdf: to die for.

Except let's hope no one actually dies !! Sounds like a car that's more than most drivers can handle ... and that's a fun challenge ... yet take it easy out there folks. Adrenaline is all well and good ... to a point.

All in all I am now living in fear of my garage, tdf and F40LM. I think I badly need the F12M for relaxation and security.

Which one is faster at the track? I know the LM is on slicks but the HP of TDF would help on the straights.

 

Good question with no answer. Yet.

Tdf is still in bits somewhere in Italy and LM yet really to get proper exercise but that day will come. Interestingly on Fiorano lap times standard F40 1.29.6 and tdf 1.21, so 8.5 seconds to make up using slicks, better brakes, wider track and suspension and an 240 extra HP. Interesting.

 

How many horsepower estimated for the LM?

 

715/720 on the dyno. Could produce more but that's at a comfortable boost with longevity in mind.

 

The LM will smoke the TDF on the track with that HP, weight differential and slicks. That's a lot more grunt than a "normal" F40. Must be a blast to drive.

 

Whenever I do get a F12 tdf or something similar with that much power, the first thing I am doing is enrolling in a performance driving school, which might help so that I don't kill myself. And then when I am finished with those classes, I will probably enroll in a different school.

And I am a former boat racer with many years experience, racing very fast 19 ft. "circle boats" with about the same HP as a Ferrari F12. SE, PS type boat classes.

You owe it to your family to extensively learn how to drive these cars.

It is indeed real handful.

As for driving school, if you can do driving lecture with tdf, it will help.

But doing driving school with other cars will not directly help driving tdf better or safer.

I never have driven this much of a car.

Even 911 GT3 is an easy car compared to tdf.

Just watching that 8 minute video is exhausting....what a car. You guys are lucky dogs (well deserved) indeed.

 

I think Harris has actually got to the core of it unlike many other reviewers. This was always meant to be a difficult car to master and I very much doubt we will see it's like again as the move today, understandably and thankfully, is to make us all look like heroes. It sounds almost like it is the analogue digital car?

Truly visceral and extreme. I, for one, will be keeping TC on.

 

That was fantastic as it really gets to the heart of the tdf personality. I don't get why people would turn tc off these days as the cars are getting too fast to slide around and drive fast at the same time.

 

Tell that to the people buying the new 2WD Huracan.

True. But that is the slower, more fun version of an already existing model. Hence why tc would come off. Actually you are right that my statement was too general.
