Hello all, I have searched a bit and not come up with much. I know MA Carbon used to make them but does not anymore. Does anyone know where to find either OEM or very good aftermarket carbon side skirts? Thanks in advance for any info.
I'm sure you've checked with our other sponsors. Ask if they can make them for you if no luck. Search ebay. I bought some CF pieces for my motorcycle from a seller on ebay.
We have contemplated making CF skirts in the past but I have not had a chance to research the interest or a fair market price. We have them for the F12 and 458. I do have a left side OEM F430 rocker here that we purchased with the intent of creating a mold. We would be interested in creating a mold and producing them in Prepreg given enough interest. David.
allegedly, i bought the last set of oem 16M carbon skirts in North America. So, I think you'll have to special order them from Italy if you go the oem route. I don't believe it would cost more, but it definitely will take awhile to produce and ship out from Italy. I did a lot of research on this before committing to buying oem ones, and came up with nothing. I did quite A LOT of begging w MaCarbon too but ya, they said it is a pain in the ass to make and sell, so happily discontinued it and would not consider starting up again. I've been a longtime customer and supporter of theirs, so not knocking them in any way, I love MaCarbon and just wished I could've gotten it through them. Their stuff is always oem-quality and they are super to work with and fairly priced. OEM is...well, you could buy a car with their price, so don't be shocked.

Have a look on their part description: "Left, & Right; Pair of 2 Carbon Fiber Black-Painted Ultra Lightweight Rocker Panels; F430 Challenge" (visit their complete portfolio, this company seems to be very serious).
Well if you look closely at the back of each rocker, there is no evidence of carbon fiber weaving...and F430 side scoops are not as aggressive and pronounced as Scuderia ones. It'll fit but it'll look like an F430. And at that price point, it's less than half the cost of 1 side of an oem 16M cf skirt.

Maybe because it is a carbon panel for a challenge car the finish isn't that proper like a panel has to be for a Scud or a 16M. That can be the reason why it is black painted and finally much cheaper.
I can probably have these built in pre-preg carbon if enough people really want them. MaCarbon said they built theirs using a wetlay technique, which is fine. A pre-preg carbon piece will yield higher strength (probably overkill for sideskirts), better weight performance, and a more uniform carbon weave layout (tighter weave and less weave distortion). Carbon will also look more pressed against the surface from the pressure of the vacuum bag.
If you can keep the cost under $5k I'm sure there will be buyers. MaCarbon themselves sold them for $7k.
It really depends on how it is made. I have a few ex-employees who currently work at Aria Group's composite division in Irvine, which is 5 min from where I live. Aria group builds the Porsche Carbon chassis/panels for Singer Porsche. If anyone is familiar, Singer cars go for $300-500k. I believe they have an autoclave, but I need to double-check. It really depends on how much they will charge to have these made using an autoclave process, which in my opinion, overkill for sideskirts. I am not sure myself if Ferrari had their sides built in an autoclave (pressurized oven). It could be just pre-preg cured in an oven. Producing it that way should reduce the cost dramatically. Anyone with a large size autoclave is going to charge a premium for using it. The only way to know if Ferrari sides are made using an autoclave or not is to make a pair using an autoclave using the same carbon laminate layers and see if there is further reduced weight. Even then, we're talking a very marginal weight difference.

I could lift mine off the table w just a flex of my pinky And I think the weight savings are negligible, it'll really boil down to cost to the buyer whether you'll be able to get enough ppl to buy in. MaCarbon's as you already said is wet-laid, was probably the most cost effective way for them to make it and those sold for $7k and from what I've been told buyers were few and far between.
Was that $7k painted or $7k bare? Price still seems pretty up there to me. I am sure that price has more to do with these being Scuderia sides than anything else. Someone has to buy Scud sides, which is $$$, and make a quality mold, which is $$$$. I'd say the difference in weight between an autoclaved pre-preg sideskirt and a normal oven cured prep-preg sideskirt is 1lb per side at the most. Very marginal.
