Deer are solid, hitting them is pretty much like hitting a wall. I hit a deer once while pulling a boat trailer. I was driving a big station wagon and the deer just destroyed the front end. It was an amazing amount of damage. With your low sloping hood, you might have ended up wearing that deer around your neck.

    You are ok, Thank God...
I too think the car will be totaled. Whatever you decide, I hope you stay within the F355 community, either repairing the car or stepping into a different one...

Thanks everyone for your well wishes.

I'll see what the official ruling is, then go from there. The adjuster already said that I'll have the option to buy it back, so we'll see what they offer. I've never gone through that, so we'll see what they say. I will say that I've parted a car once before and swore I'd never do it again. It was a lot of work and I just don't have the room for it now.

I have a agreed value, so there won't be any negotiating there.

Yes, it's very dangerous out here. I totaled my daily driver in November by hitting a deer. That one ran in front of me before I even had time to react.

Ah, man...one of my favorite cars on here. So sorry, we all know how much you loved it. If they can fix it great, if not, you'll fall in love with the next one.

Once I saw a trashed 348 and wanted to bit the crap out of the owner when he said, "Its just a car?"

Now I will say this, "Its just a car Eric, gland you are unharmed." Let me know what they want for it I may give you enough to cover the beer tab :) Would be interested. coupe or spider?

BTW, these 355, when they get hit in the front corners, if you looked good enough you will see that the tunnel gets twicked. Its the portion where you have the driver's foot panel right next to the accelerator pedal.

I don't think that the adjuster is going to be as in to the manual GTB market as we are, my hunch is that it will be totaled out... especially if the frame is any degree off.

The car won't be inexpensive to fix. I'm looking at a bare metal respray and it alone will be big bucks. Until DIY work can be done, it likey wont make sense to buy back and fix it (financially). Real bummer....

    wow

    1) most important, you are ok.

    2) I'm still a 355 rookie, so I have zero opinion on the complexity or cost of repairs - however, it's a car....it can be fixed assuming time, energy and money

    3) I can't remember the specifics, but I think there was an article in a recent Forza about a mangled 355 that was seriously rebuilt (someone here?). The economics might force a decision, but before you let the total it, might be worth getting a serious view of the repair cost. Unsure who your insurer is, but might be worth escalating the conversation within the claims group before finalizing.

    4) it might just be me, but since I've been racing cars (and bending them occasionally), my tolerance for repaired cars is quite high - as is my confidence in the right people doing really good repair work - and the car being good as new in terms of how it drives.

    5) the car now has a dreaded "story", but seems like this car is one you love. hopefully you can get it running again

Dammit! This sucks balls! Glad you're ok though. Your 355 was beautiful and unique in our community. I hope you get good money for it. Take the performance parts out and buy Dave's 355.

Very sorry to hear that Eric. Your car was one of the most stunning 355s on this chat board. Thanks for sharing all of the wonderful pics of it over the years.

    Eric,

So sorry to hear about my former car being involved in another accident! I have the original front driver side fender hanging in my garage as a momento to my first Ferrari. I would imagine it will be totaled as the damage done to the car when I owned it was much less than this (no inner front structural damage) and insurance gave me a check for nearly 30k! Rather than fix it I sold the car as is to Ed Zabinski in Atlanta, who interestingly enough bought the car from me just because it had the factory carbon fiber sport seats. He took the seats out, fixed the car, and I guess sold it to you. Anyway, good luck with the car and at least you are OK!

If you weren't a deer hunter before the accident, I bet there's one you'll be hunting down this year!

Good to hear you are OK, that's the most important thing. Sorry about your car. If you don't have agreed value coverage you are most likely going to be facing a total unfortunately. Expect half of what the car is really worth.

I live in Las Vegas, Nevada. We have to be on the lookout for Burros walking down the road in certain areas. On an unlit stretch of road you may have a chance to spot a grey Burro, but a black Burro is invisible on a moonless night. I have seen a Burro near Red Rock go through a 1 ton truck windshield. Dead Burro, dead driver and passenger.

What's important is you're OK. And, consider this. If you didn't try to avoid the deer it could have rolled straight up the hood in through the windshield.

    You did the right thing.

Sorry but I have to respectfully disagree, that car is toast. To the OP, I'm sorry for your loss.
