Haha, this is what I mean! It's 45.000 EUROS, a joke! Get the car. If there's no major issue, everything is fine.

Well guys, I flew to Toronto and had a look at the car. The maintenance history is extensive. The owner said the car was 9/10 in and out but I would say maybe 8/10 inside and 7/10 outside. Interestingly he only had it for two months -second Vanquish.

Anyways , I bought it and drove it home - half way across Canada - 3200kms in 2.5 days!
Who the hell builds a $200k+ GT car and doesn't put in cruise control. I have long legs and could not adjust the seat to support them so was in agony until I used the neck pillow from the flight to help.
Other than that the car ran well. When coming into a city and slowing down there is a loud whirring noise which concerned me - ASM pump or power steering pump? also the idle after a long drive and then stopping at a light was lumpy. No check engine lights or warning lights of any kind. I did drive conservatively to avoid attracting the attention of the enforcement types. Lots of them in Ontario and Manitoba, virtually none in Saskatchewan or Alberta.
So now I have to wash the bugs off and sort through the issues and see what I can do to bring the car up to a 9 or 10. I will post pics later.

Just one pic from the journey. There were many places that I wanted to stop but I needed to get home asap - so more driving less stopping. It is now in for an out of province inspection.

Interesting - The car looks like Black Onyx but the registration says Blue. From some of the chips in the paint it doesn't look like a repaint. Can anyone tell me the original factory colour?

Congratulations and welcome to the Vanquish family ! :)

Be sure that you have your exhaust valves opened.
And also that you run on Michelin Pilot Super Sport.

Enjoy the car and drive it as much as possible.
Don't hesitate to reach the redline at 7000 rpm... this is for what this car was made.
    It doesn't like city driving.

Also remember that the clutch is engaged below 1500 rpm so when you're in heavy trafic, better remain above 1500 rpm in 1st gear than at 1000 rpm in 2nd gear. Drive always in Sport mode, the clutch wears slower in that mode.

You've just bought a piece of Aston Martin History and Heritage. ;)

Nice buy! that was fast but the price was certainly right given the amount of work that seem to have been done!
Get to the bottom of the black vs blue. If it is a misktake get it corrected or at least documented. This are always endless questions on any later resale.
This forum should get you the proper original info.

"When coming into a city and slowing down there is a loud whirring noise which concerned me "
Belt may be ? even if you have to do an asm pump in a worst case, you are still ahead but if the car shifts properly i would think it is unlikely.

SO. It looks like the car is black from the factory: Ferrari Nero Daytona. It has a bit of a brownish hue when looked at in the sun. I like it much more than straight Nero. Also got it changed in the registration. Now I have to find some touch up for the few rock chips and some scratches on the pass frt fender. There are also some small barely noticeable dents by the drivers door handle. they should be able to do paintless repair.

Thanks Armen for the info. I didn't know the clutch engagement rpm and hadn't tried the sport mode. Boy that makes a difference!

Good deal that you confirmed original paint. On this cars, it is paramount most of the time, except at auctions where bidders seem to throw money at them no matter their history.

The only way to buy a non S at this time is a fully original car with full records that has been updated with good coils and the gear sensors from the 06 models. You seem to have gotten that. Even if you shell out some money to make it perfect, it appears you are coming out ahead with a ~10K miles cars. Well done.

Well thank-you. I think I did rather well.
I believe I have narrowed down the noise I was concerned about. I think it may be a failing oil cooler pump. The noise is only present when the car is warm/ driven for a while. Just have to confirm it. Does anyone know the best place to buy one?

    What a Beauty !

So, do you have your exhaust valves opened ?
Stock, the valves are opened from idle to 1500, then they close until 3500 rpm, finally they re-open until the redline at 7000 rpm.
A small modification (disconnecting 2 vacuum pipes of the exhaust) makes the valves opened all the time, it really transforms the car ! It breathes better, it is less jerky at low speed and you enjoy the sound from idle to 7000 rpm.
It really makes a big difference especially when downshifting.

Concerning the tires, the Michelin Super Sport are the best you could get for a Vanquish, they add a ton of grip especially on the wet (keep in mind that this car doesn't have DSC), more comfort and less road noise. Plus, they look superb. The original Yokohama were awful.

    Enjoy :)

Hi Armen, I plan on doing the switch method for the exhaust valves. I does sound nice when you stomp on it. The tires are currently Yokohama Advan sport. They seemed to perform well cruising on the way home. Maybe a bit harsh on rough roads.

Hey I was wondering what people got for mileage. I was getting about 28 mpg(imperial) doing between 65 - 75 mph. twice it dropped to ~24/25 mpg. I think I got some old gas.

I never look at the gas mileage. All the various measure units make this too hard anyway. All I know if I stop too frequently at the pump. My take is about 12 miles/gals US using a heavy foot.

Put off the Yokohamas and take the Michelin Super Sport! That will transform the car into a new and sportier one.

I will be looking at getting some Michelins soon. But next week I will put another 2500kms on the Yokos with a trip to BC for a reunion - unless there is a forecast for snow in the mountains lol. Actually, its pretty rare for snow at this time but you never know.

I would like to experience the sound when the exhaust valves are opened and then to decide if it’s worth it to install a switch. I don’t want to unplug the wrong pipes so can somebody please explain in detail which vacuum pipes need to be disconnected and if possible provide pictures?

Beautiful car, albeit black. Mods look nice.
Another example where the car fax tells a few things:

    1. the 1st owner bought it to be nice enough so could bear all the depreciation for the next buyer who wanted a new car. He barely drove it (no registration ?) for 6 years!!.

    2. The 2nd buyer promply destroyed the transmission apparently not knowing to drive that car. Fortunatly Aston of Beverly Hills corrected this nicely. Another owner who will go around spread rumors of transmission failures when all it would have taken is him to learn how to drive a robotize transmission and get off the ASM mode and city driving to be happy.

    3. Helena is the meca of exotics! :). that is a positive

The Civic has now adopted an edgy fastback style and is decidedly the best looking Honda in a decade. The body has a lot of sculpting -- slits, creases and intakes giving it a busy appearance. The overall look works well with the chromed grille, flared wheel wells and a roofline that tapers down to the bracket-shaped taillights making for a daring look.
