When you sell - do you let them drive?

drive it - yes
drive it alone - no

Drive it if I don't know you, and you are a tire kicker - no.

I sold my 360 to the first guy who looked at it. I knew him from here, he'd been to a few cars and coffee Saturdays, and the mechanics at Algar knew him as well. So, I was sure he wasn't a tire kicker, and we went on a VERY controlled test drive.

I keep crazy records on my cars (ask UroTrash when he bought my Dino) so the buyer didn't do a PPI, he simply talked to the mechanic who had worked on the car, read through my service records for the prior three years, and bought the car.

Most people would say they are interested just because they want a test drive.

Charge him a reimbursable fee subject to that he keeps the car hahaha

There's NO WAY that I would buy a car without test driving it first so I can't expect to sell mine without someone driving it. However, there would have to be some serious interest demonstrated from the potential buyer before that happens.

I got a dealer test drive before I got the first 550.

I test drove the 360, one ten minute drive was all it took to convince me it had to be mine.

I did not test drive the Dino, it wasn't in running condition when I bought it. I would have bought the dino if it was in 30 cartons on a garage floor. I would not have purchased a 360 without a test drive.

I bought mine without a test drive. Mechanic did a PPI and test drove it. That was enough for me.

If someone wants to pay for a PPI and get the condition, then I know they're serious. Some guy off the street.. yeah no.

 

I was able to test drive mine for as long as I wanted. Dealer even encouraged me to take it on the highway

 

I actually did NOT drive my car before I bought it. He offered....I didn't really need to.
I had him take me for a ride and that was that.

I need to know how the car works... for me. I've found some cars that I thought I'd love, but didn't after trying them. The C7 Corvette for example. Conversely I never thought that I'd own a 911... until I tried one.

 

I purchased my car not even without driving it but without actually seen it.
Why?? Because I purchased it here in Fchat.
I will never (well maybe not never) buy a car anywhere else but in a forum, you can track everything that your car has had and how it was repaired by an enthusiast just like yourself.

This would be my approach, too.

 

I bought my 360 without a drive... pretty much my choice, I already knew I was going to buy the car but with no records of a cambelt change in the last god knows how long no-one was starting the engine until that was changed... even the workshop I had it trailered to put a big sign on it saying "do not start"

Worked out fine in the end though, I got a <5k mile car for a price that no-one ever believes!

 

I would never buy a car without driving it first. I'm in the process of buying a local private owner 360, and he let me drive it on my own. I do know the owner personally though. But I still wouldn't buy a car without driving it myself. I know that can be a challenge with Ferrari's as a lot of times you have to buy out of state and have them shipped.

 

This is similar to what happened to me in LA about 10 years ago when looking at a 360 spider. To him, I probably looked like a 15 years old dreamer. I don't remember the conversation but I was only allowed a demonstration from the passenger side. This was after many (actual) test drives from other exotics car owners during my car search, so I felt the guy was a bit discriminatory of my age. ie tire kicker. (was in early 20s) Maybe not the case since it seems like the general consensus and smart choice amongst sellers on here. Funny I never have a problem on the sell side..been pretty lucky selling cars.

Seller didn't seem serious anyway, asking price too high, etc Little did the guy know, I ended up purchasing a brand new 6speed f430 few months later ...
