All I'm going to say is that, at least mine sounded better and my girl was prettier. (By a lot on both counts) 😎

    Thumbs up all around though.

If that's ALL you are going to say, why post? Maybe I'm missing the point!!!

A couple of young men in their tesla came upon myself and my girl earlier tonight. The Tesla is a pretty quick car. We had a very short "throttle response comparison session" tonight where they appeared to have a distinct advantage. My valiant 355 went to school this evening but it did so with style and grace. The young men in the Tesla were nice kids and as I said, after the "session" there were reciprocal thumbs up of respect and appreciation.

It should be said that my 550 faired much better in the same type of evaluation a few months ago where the results were opposite.

    I hope this is clearer.

Not even comparable cars...the 355 is 20 years old and a classically beautiful exotic. The Tesla is the best all around Daily Driver commute car there is in the present time. The performance Tesla's will have their way with any 355 in a drag race...it should not even be close if the Tesla driver is not asleep at the wheel. The Model S P85D and P90D Ludicrous equipped car will give a LaFerrari a run for it's money in a short drag race...

no Ferrari was ever built to do a drag race: every Ferrari was built to do a good lap time on an handling track. Your 20 years old 355 will beat every Model S PXXD Tesla on an handling track fast lap also in the next ten years.

    ciao

All probably true but the op's first post is talking about trying to drag race a tesla. I, like you, think that that this comparison should not even be made.

Yes, that's right. My opinion was written just to say that you cannot compare a truck with a boat and so on: a 250 GTO cannot defeat a Tesla on a drag race nor beat a Ship on useful load capacity. You simply haven't to compare two different things built for different purpose in different ages as well.

    ciao

Edit: my Mercedes diesel sedan is faster on straight than my 1980 308 GTB, but my 36 years old Ferrari still has a by far better handling than my Mercedes .

Really? What do you call the start of every F1 race? Noting but a drag race to the first corner. But, based on the last few years performance in F1, perhaps you are right. :)

The thread was started for a little fun. I have friends with Teslas and the are literally "insane". We poked the pedal for a few instances. It was not an immature all out , car weaving , battle. It lasted long enough to just crack the speed limit and quickly ease off. Either way, it was a great night with the roof off and a topper to a nice dinner and great entertainment.

Our cars ar almost 2 decades old now. Technology on cars and everything else has changed.

In 1998 Google started...The iMac G3 was introduced and the rest of us were running Windows NT. Heck, the iPhone wasn't released until 2007.

Our cars are a part of Ferrari history now. I quit racing on the street a long time ago. There are SUV's & ricer cars faster in a straight line than our car....and they all look like crap compared to the 355 :)

There fixed it for you ;)
Lately the question at the stop light (hazard of a convertible) is ....
    "What year is it ?"
355 is a timeless thing of beauty, NOTHING sounds like a 355 at full sound .... Period.
Find a tunnel and enjoy the music.

What model was it? I would think it would be pretty close with a P85, especially from a roll.

P85D would curb stomp you though :)

Nowadays 0-60 speed is a dime a dozen. Sure you can strap a car engine on a go kart and make it goes 0-60 in 2 sec. It doesn't mean much. This is even more true in the super car category. What's important in my opinion is the looks. After all we could've bought a faster cheaper car but here we are. Ferraris are in a class by themselves. Comparing it to a tesla is like competing in the special Olympic. Even if you win, you loose.

Not even a comparison worth mentioning...it's like comparing today's social media popularity today between supermodel Cindy Crawford (F355) as she is in 2016 to Kim Kardashian (Tesla) in 2016. Different eras at the top of their games in different categories...and things that should never be compared.

Today more people will like and follow Kim K even though Cindy Crawford arguably is the most beautiful woman in the 80's to 90's era and still looks good today.

The D is a spectacularly fast car. I was shocked to see the "insane" switch in the drive settings.

As I said earlier, I was not beat in the 550 ( regular tesla), and it was not that bad of a beat in the 355. It wasn't by a length and as we got close to big speed, I was right there. Also, I was with my better half so I was behaved.

I dont generally race anyone unless I know I have a chance. Drag racing a 355 against many cars will only show the other guy hiw fast his mustang, etc is.

You can supprise them by doing some research on the other car and check their gearing vs speed.

I raced a hellcat charger and beat it up to 120 mph but that was from a rollon at about 35 mph.

These were pretty fast cars 20 years ago but not so much now.

Tesla's are great vehicles and very fast. I will beat a dead horse and say it's fundamentally an unfair fight. A 20-year-old car vs. new? C'mon. What do you expect?

As others have pointed out, the F355 is a 'well rounded' machine that can carve up the tracks.

Consider this, the Tesla on the Nurburgring would go into 'limp' mode just after 3 minutes of heavy driving.

You heard right - 180 seconds of happiness then - what? "Reduced power mode."

    c'mon.

The Tesla ended up getting the job done in 10 minutes and F355 can do it around 8.

Not to detract or demean the Tesla in any way, it is a great car. But comparing to an F355 is just not apples to apples, two fundamentally different machines with different purposes.

I might as well say my Hot Hatch is faster then a SUV/Van - proves and says nothing other then I'm a dolt, sounds like the 'kids' were good sports though, and it was just a good 'run' by fellow enthusiasts (as it should be, in a safe manner of course!)

    Cheers

My daily driver would crush my 355 in a straight line but it doesn't come anywhere close to being as exciting as the 355 overall.
