Good for him! I guess Red Bull / Tag Heuer / Renault would have frowned on a Ferrari. Porsche is a good "neutral" brand. Verstappen toasts success with $400,000 Porsche GT3 RS On a side note, I didn't realize the new GT3 RS went for that much. Wow. Cheers! Ruben
I see the MSRP at 179,000. Certainly not chump change but not 400k. Maybe the price is a bit exaggerated? Good for him.
I don't know how prototype and single-seater race drivers drive these cars. It must be like driving a Toyota Yaris for them, probably even more exaggerated than that comparison. Why even bother. Maybe after the career is over it would make sense to have something with a modicum of 'speed.'
He's had it for a while now. FWIW Ricciardo drives a 911 Turbo, Mark Webber is a big Porsche nut as well, had several when he was still driving at Red Bull, including a GT2.
Max might be the only 18 year old that should be trusted with a GT3 RS. But he is still 18. I am just glad I don't have to pay his insurance bill.
Driving on the street is driving on the street no matter the vehicle. Driving on the track, is driving on the track no matter the speed. These guys will go at it in a 9HP cement mixer motor powered kart and it won't make much difference in "boring".
When did Max move to the USA? Obviously the price reflects what they cost in Europe with a bit of BS on top. This story states he paid min 250k euros. ?Voor de wedstrijd luister ik Let it Be van het feestteam? - Sportnieuws
"Max Verstappen has toasted the early success of his meteoric formula one career with an extravagant purchase but only with his fathers ok. At the weekend, the 18-year-old Dutchman continued his impressive rise to F1 stardom by collecting the prestigious Trofero Lorenzo Bandini award in Italy. Earlier winners were champions Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton, as Verstappen said: I am really honoured. This trophy is a great recognition. Blick, a Swiss newspaper, claims that Max is F1s newest millionaire driver, having won big with his high-profile move from Toro Rosso to Red Bull this year. The report said Verstappen has celebrated his success by buying a Porsche GT3 RS, which costs almost $400,000. But Blick quoted Maxs father Jos as saying the youngster needed the ok for the extravagant purchase from both himself and his manager. If Max wants to buy something big, he must get permission from us first. Like now with his private car, Verstappen senior said. But Max is very sensible on normal roads, Jos added" Says $400,000 in the article not £ or . I'm sure the price is exaggerated.
Price definitely exaggerated. New price in Netherlands is 265K euro (and he wouldn't have bought there, so can take some money off), and 2nd hand prices are around 200.
+1 I absolutely love the 991 GT3 (and RS). Never thought I'd say it after they went flappy paddle, but what stunning cars.
When MB wasn't in F1 in the 70s and 80s they used to give discounts on the Sclass as they liked the publicity of F1 drivers driving their cars. Since F1 is about being green shouldn't these guys be driving hybrids and lecturing people on energy recapture? Lol
I think Vettel and Webber both bought 911s at Red Bull simultaneously and spoke to the press about how it was their favourite car. I think it's more of a marketing link between porsche and Red Bull than anything else.
Did a bit of searching and seems you're right! I forgot to include his 997 4 litre RS as well...Good man. 2 of some of the best cars made in the last 10 years.
Actually i read an article about this a couple of years ago in the F1 Racing Mag. Mark Webber noted that he's one of the few F1 drivers that doesn't have a contract on which car he's allowed to drive/buy. Which brings me to the long time rumour if Michael Schumacher did indeed own a Mclaren F1 before..
