Ran across this video the other day of a 17 y.o. and his new 355 F1. Got it off the truck and a few hours later...bam, baptism by fire.

I thought it would be cool if the Fchat brotherhood might be able to help him out of a jam. Post your thoughts here & on the comments thread of his YT video.

I LOL'ed at the end when he threw a stack of cash at the engine. Story of my life.

I don't have a you tube account so I can not post there.

But in the video you can see that his tach is not running. No eng RPM feedback to the TCU will not allow the car to shift. I am amazed he can get it onto second gear.

Fix the tach and perhaps the problem will go away.

Buying that car and not knowing anything about it? Uhmmm alrighty then.

"The F1 pump is $5,000 may be $10,000" Uh yea, switching to a 360 pump is $1500 - $1800. He must have been reading all the crazy posts on FChat.

Sorting the car is essential. I hope he doesn't need a F1 TCU, they are unobtanium.

For as much time he spends on Youtube Im sure he must have an account on here. Would be cool to help him get this car figured out.

Anytime they go on a self righteous rant in their first video about what it takes to get where they are.. It's not going to end well. The kid with the Lamborghini Gallardo is another example...

It could be the sensors, or a plethora of other gremlins ranging from wiring / connector issues all the way up to the TCU.

I'm sure he had a reputable Ferrari shop in Arkansas do a comprehensive PPI.
I'm also pretty sure that the state of Arkansas doesn't contain an SD2 / SD3 scan tool.

Yah, I hear you. The world needs another "I worked my butt off and got this car..." channel like it needs (fill in the blank) but he seems a bit more genuine than the Lambo kid. For sure, he has better taste in cars. :)

Yeah posted an update on YouTube. He took it to Competizione and the bill came to 6700 USD or thereabouts. New clutch, kluber grease, throw out bearing, flange, seals, resurfaced flywheel and some sensors. It's now driving.

It's interesting to note he had 90% (!) wear on his clutch.

I have to admit, when I bought my manual 355, I took the owner's word that the clutch still had plenty of life left on it. The PPI mechanic had worked on his car and said that he recalled that the clutch was ok, and I never insisted that he got a wear value for me. I'm now starting to worry. I'm starting to hear various odd noises from the back of the car (could be anything though). He did mention something about a bearing being replaced, so I assumed the clutch would be ok. How difficult is it for a Ferrari specialist to check the wear?

    Thanks.

I know right?! The 6 speeds don't need a clutch, flywheel, kluber grease, throw out bearing or seals.

    Whew... Oh wait.

The clutch wear number on an F1 car is of questionable value unless you know how it was configured originally.

A manual car requires disassembly to examine the clutch.

A manual car does not prevent the owner from driving it.
