As I stated in a previous post it was the rear bearing on the driven shaft for the cam belt system. It is a bearing that was supposedly on a tech notice to replace/upgrade. If that bearing fails the shaft will cant to the right side, the belt looses tension on that side and takes out a head, as in all 16 valves! Not a pleasant sound, trust me on that.

How do you know this or are you just making trouble? There are never more than a few valves open at the same time so it's unlikely that 16 can be affected. There's likely no real damage to either head.

Ryan, I thought you knew the tech was on vacation? I agree with you, being ignored changes the story. And for me, vacation or not, I would call the customer and give them assurance that I would resolve the problem.

Making trouble? I think not. I'm talking about what happened to MY car. The engine does not stop rotating instantaneously and the belt on my car did not break, it skipped a number of cog teeth. Trust me, all 16 valves on the right side head were bent.

Depends on how the belt breaks. If it skips first, it may run all valves through the bending process. I hope this is not the case with the Ralph's engine.

Problem is that engine is coming out to see what happened. That is a lot of boxes to carry over to the old shop :)

The engine was running fine . Although I did remember a slight winning nose the week before. Didn't think much of it .
I did talk to my machinic today and he is shocked as much as I am . He did mention that one valves could have "dropped " or the cam seized causing the belt to break.

Remember the bent vale is a direct cause of a snapped belt

Best of luck to you I feel so bad for all involved

Thanks .. I feel bad as well . I have a great deal of respect for my mechanic. He is by far the best out there . I'm sure that we can come up with a resolution.
I took off the right side of the timing belt cover last night. I located the belt. It has a clean break .

The whining noise plus the clean break could have been caused by seriously over-tensioned belt. Seized water pump or tensioner pulley would have smoked the belt first. Any signs of rubbing on the outer surface of the belt? (if you can see it)
