It looks like a microphone.....?
Hah! It does look like a microphone. Not sure anyone would be able to hear you over the motor though!

Yes, the VIN will tell it for sure. But some clues seem specific to a US car: - bumpers are definitely US to me (as said by Greg above, these bumpers do not look euro to me). - black front louvres; with the exception of Gordon's car, these are almost (I write "almost"...) unknown from factory on euro cars - "Unleaded fuel only", very specific to US cars. A few questions: Has the dashboards the "slowdown lights"? How is the exhaust system, notably the headers and the "diaper"? Rgds
I think he meant front spoiler but that isn't nessasarily euro either. The mirrors and rear decklid are euro. The speedo, bumpers, square side reflectors and unleaded fuel only sticker were normally added when federalized. One thing that is different on euros is the front trunk latch. Euros only have one in the middle, US have two, one on each side. Also, some cars had the face of the speedo changed but the odometer is still measuring kilometers. Are the other gauges metric? I can't tell if it has the euro flash to pass lights either. If it is a Euro GTB QV then it's one of the best to have for sure.
It's definitely a euro car. Rear deck louvre arrangement and engine are the giveaway. That's a K-jet, not the KE-jet with lambda. Plus the rear fog lights and no exhaust diaper.
Yes, mine is a euro GTS 1983 model. Engine bay, rear deck lid, side marker lights, rear view mirrors are all the same.
The side marker lights on the car in #1953 are definitely not Euro, they are US marker lights. The Euro QV front side lights were a much thinner rectangle, and there were no rear side lights. This car looks to be a Euro car that was partially federalized for the US - it was common to convert the bumpers, side marker lights, speedometer, and add the dash warning stickers.
Dave: I think its in the range for the condition. The only thing that would give me pause would be the odometer in comparison to comps and their pricing. But any 308 odometer should be taken with a grain of salt. Auction America results on 80-82 GTB (sold prices with auction premium included): March 2015, 1980 red, condition 1, 4100 miles, $84700 sold May 2015, 1982 White, condition 3, 35,000 miles, $58300 sold April 2016, 1981 Red, condition 1 or 2, 8,000 miles, $85000 bid, no sale, would have been $93500 with premium if it had sold April 2016, 1981 Red, condition 3 smog gear in a box, ????? mileage, $63250 sold This car: 1980 Red, 40,000 miles, condition 1 or 2 car, $78900 Looks fairly stock to me. I think the side mirrors are not OEM, perhaps Alfa sourced. The little fog lights and the power wire sticking out the dash vent should have been removed. I think the car shows well.
This certainly strikes me as all the money in the world for a 2 valve B. I always felt that it was the targa S which was in higher demand - the whole Magnum P.I. deal and all that. Or maybe it's the low miles instead?
In general the B's have been higher for a few years. My guess is that because the Vetros went up and they were all b, the steel b followed. Also the roof line of the b looks nicer.
Anyone seen this no reserve auction for the Euro QV GTS 50407? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ferrari-308-QV-/291822963973 Sold for $46.3k.
Looks like a steal, except the part where the ad discloses that the engine is making some strange tapping and slapping noises! Weird noises are usually expensive.....sometimes you get lucky though.
yes, but only if this auction was for real ... at least I would know how to avoid letting this car go for that kind of money
I think right now the GTB is up over the GTS, maybe 10%. And the entire 308 line has moved very significantly just over the last two years, so hard to keep up. I don't see Auctions America as the best place to sell one, but I knew of a low mileage 1980 GTB went through their auction as it was featured on What's My Car Worth. So that is why I used them, and the price points may actually be lower than true value at the point in time. I don't know if the B over S price trend will continue. It was easy to see that freight train coming, but much harder to predict it will last. We have seen a very low mileage S sell in that 90 range at auction too, prior to these sales. So I think condition by far trumps B vs S when it comes down to the price point. And I think there is higher demand for the S version over the B. Its just that there is also more supply of the S to meet that demand. The B market, in particular in the USA where fewer made it over, has demand that is outpacing supply and driving the price difference.
Tapping and Slapping probably means a complete rebuild. $46K is a high price to me for a 308 QV that likely needs an engine rebuild.
Weren't the early QV's known for their propensity to burn oil to the point where many had to have their engines replaced by Ferrari? I can't remember the years but '80-81 sounds right.
You have the years right, but the QV wasn't introduced until the 1983 model year. It was the GTSi/GTBi injected 2 valve engines in 80/81 that had the oil burning problem and had a factory replacement program.
The car was statically stored since 2010 and I bet they ran the engine without servicing first... It has a claimed full history which is very rare these days.
