For that to happen, we'll need a Newey & Brawn or equivalents on the team. I don't see that happening...so ya, the realist in me believes if Seb wants to add more titles to his tally, he's going to have to look elsewhere for his supporting cast.

Schumie never did it alone, he had his star-studded supporting cast and one where there wasn't someone like the Sweater guy at the helm.

I agree. The Neweys and Brawns of the world seek out the freedom to innovate and get on with the job. Micromanagement by non-technical managers such as Marchionne is not going to attract them - quite the reverse, actually.

The F1 team needs autonomy to fix itself and it sounds like it hasn't really got it.

Yeah the micromanagement will put a drag on things. But they WERE improving. And is MB and Toto any different than the Newey Brawn team? And the whole crew with Schumi paid the dues and then collected the dividends. Maybe the hiccup in the progress IS due to the personal tragedy and NOT to sweater man and micromanaging? But the tech issues are still tech. It's time to buckle down and cut losses, not to give up. Hang tight and don't dynamite the progress that's been made. Vettel will stay and show what's up. If McLaren makes a good leap next year that wil put more pressure on MB and they might make a mistake or forget something...

 

So from the perspective of Vettle... there is no place for him to go now. so he has to make the best of it, unless he jumps back to Red Bull and they ditch Verstappen back to TR.. and Comrade Danil is out. Highly un likely, but possible.

more likely is that Vettle will have to be listened to, and perhaps help tempt Newey to Ferrari? and or Id engineering that will work for his style.

Marchionne in the meetings? I don't know what to make of it other than if you are the boss and he is... he wants to lead from the front. if that is so, then he needs to really get in there, and not snipe from the sides.

 

I'd say that is the most unlikeliest of scenarios.

 

And go where exactly?

Based on the teams current forms:

Mercedes? - With Hamilton and Rosberg on board they don't need him!
Red Bull? - With Ricci and Mad Max on board they don't need him!
McLaren? - Their rate of improvement isn't good enough to become Championship winners any time soon!
Williams? - They're not much better than McLaren now and Vettel would be too expensive for them!
Renault - No chance!
Torro Rosso? - It's Red Bull's crèche so that's not going to happen!
Force India? - Never going to win a World Championship!
HAAS? - See "Force India"
Sauber? - Hee hee hee! - pleeeaaaaasssse!
Manor Racing? - Do I really have to explain this one?

And before the change in regulations is brought up - All that really means is that there will be an element of taking a chance with all of the teams, so staying with Ferrari would be no different to swapping teams (and as Alonso has demonstrated so well - Sometimes the Devil you know is far better than taking a gamble on the Devil you don't know!)

 

If McLaren-Honda has shown anything, it is that their rate of development in the current restrictive formula should be respected. And with no token restrictions in 2017, no artificial token handicap, no more growing pains, I think Alonso and Honda will thrive.

Seb went to Ferrari to try to emulate the achievements of his hero. Admirable, but at this point, pretty much a futile endeavor. They are nowhere closer to winning him a title than McLaren, difference is, McLaren radically changed things up and is NOT doing the same thing while Ferrari still is doing the same thing, so to me at least, McLaren has a better shot of winning the WDC than Ferrari does.

As for where Seb should go, I think he's out of Ferrari and into Mercedes after Hamilton leaves in 2018, perhaps even trading places with Seb for his red jersey. It's the only unventured territory for Hamilton, and everyone wants to put on that red jersey at least once right? It's still a bucket list item for any driver no? Or maybe he retires to pursue his music / movie career and Rosberg moves to Ferrari? I see some play there...

 

Maybe Ferrari should buy someone out of the Mercedes team to achieve two results :

1. Get some GOOD knowledge on the inner workings of the team
2. destabilise Mercedes, it happens to us all the time

Toto Wolff is relishing the prospect of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg fighting over a single vacancy at Mercedes and has opened up on the options F1's world champions could have at their disposal in the 2018 transfer market.

 

Not a chance they'll be around in 2019 after the fiascos of 2017 and 2018 with these two.

 

Make the call to Costa, having an ex engine man in charge of the tech team is unlikely to work, 2017 is probably already a write off and unless they get some one in quick 2018 as well.

 

Agree..but i doubt Cost will come back...Ferrari is to volatile for engeniers, at mercedes he doesn't have to worry about his seat...

Im confused by all of this...If JA left because for family, well then, we see what the new guy can do (hopefully keep us from falling further behind because its apparent we have fallen off the cliff already) If JA is leaving because of interference from SM, then we in for a long ride. He's not an engineer..he shouldnt really be involved w/the things he doesnt understand. But on the other hand, if he's involved because our internal politics are wrecking the team and he see's this, and can fix it..well then....

But I tell you, He's probably already working on the next Reno.

As bad a sweater is, I can't believe he would interfere with a veteran like Allison. I think gossip is too impatient for the sad slow story of a family loss and is trying to substitute intrigue for grief and loss.

The chassis is fouled up by tires and maybe push vs pull rod. Don't remember what what there. Ture strategy and tire performance are messing us up, not to mention track surface. Azerbajian and Red Bull ring were unknowns.

It does seem that sweater is indeed very hands on in the meetings- reading between the lines, Brundle is one if many saying the same thing on Sky.

Interesting that Kimi said that he has a lot of respect for Allison..but does not want to get involved....

One of Allison's kids is 17 with the other 2 university ages so he wasn't leaving to cook them fish fingers at home - maybe he was fed up with the sweater method and this tragedy prompted an inevitable mutual parting of ways.
