That would be great, yes.mgone a bit quiet on here!
I found this photograph at the weekend and thought it might help to keep this thread running! This is #69349 in June 1991 at a wedding in Surrey. I am sure there are lots more "wedding car" photographs out there Image Unavailable, Please Login

You're very quick to show your knowledge of chassis numbers Marcel, but not so quick when asked a direct question. Here it is again in case you missed it..... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/vintage-ferrari-market/519651-ferrari-275-gts-4-nart-spider-%40-rm-m%F3naco-2.html
Hello all, Not strictly a Ferrari question but definitely Ferrari connected! I have recently purchased Colonel Ronnie Hoare's 1968 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow MPW 2 door saloon. He ordered the car new in Dawn blue with grey leather and I believe he was regularly driven by his chauffeur Pat Chapman on business between Maranello Concessionaires Ferrari and his F. English Ford dealership in Bournemouth. Does anyone out there have a period photo of the Colonel with the car? David
My old 308 GT4 at Croft 1998, anyone seen the car recently? Video made for the Ferrari Owners Club in 2007 there's various interesting clips of archive footage. https://www.vpoint.tv/ferrari/ Image Unavailable, Please Login
David, Here are 2 photo archives you can try: LAT Photographic - Haymarket Images About the Photographic Collection - The National Motor Museum Trust LAT have 12 million motoring photos in their archive! Good luck in your search. I reckon a current photo of the Colonel's RR would be of interest and relevant on this thread, particularly a special bodied one. Chris.
Hi David, just to help the search from people who may have their photos tagged with reg plates in particular, was this car originally JVG 828G? -Ed
Thanks Ed, The car is currently temporarily registered as 6 RXM but as you say it was previously registered JVG 828G. However in the Colonel's ownership it was registered KFX 666G. There is currently an application with DVLA to register it back to KFX 666G. Here are pics as the car looks today: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
KFX plate makes sense as the 'FX' designation is for Bournemouth area registration (where, as you say above, Hoare had the Ford dealership). I don't know what history you have with the car, but the plate change to 'JVG...' shows that it was re-registered to a Norwich area address at some point. The switch from one Non-Transferable Registration Mark to another typically suggests that there was a cherished plate on the car (after 'KFX' in this case), then it was taken off, and for some reason was not swapped back to the original VRM. Does anything in the paperwork support this assumption? I understand that it was exported to mainland Europe in 1996. -Ed
Slightly more specifically, the KFX***G numbers were issued to Dorset between September & November 1968. The JVG***G numbers were issued as you say, in Norwich, but also between September & November 1968. If Ronnie Hoare did have it on a private number plate, hence the change, the above might suggest he only had the car a very short time. Don't forget to ask the RREC if not already. Mark
Mark, would it not have operated how the system today works (or is supposed to work), whereby the reg plate assigned post-private-plate is given the correct model year designation? In other words, could a 'G' suffix not be issued much later, indicating that it was originally a 1968 car? -Ed
I've received some info from the DVLA's policy team on reg plate issuing process changes in previous decades (this may be useful to any enquiry about old reg plates - not just the Rolls-Royce in question at the moment). Between 1974 and 1983, it's odds-on that any car registered in the UK for the first time (however old), or re-registered from a cherished plate, would have been given a current year suffix. From 1983, due to confusion about the vehicle age, it was decided that an appropriate age-related registration number would be allocated to these vehicles. Q plates were introduced for vehicles where the age could not be readily determined. Prior to 1974 - when regs were still under Local Taxation Offices - when a vehicle was permanently moved into another LTO area, many offices would require it to have a new registration number based on its original registration date. It is therefore most likely - though not certain - that the car was re-registered as 'JVG 828G' either before 1974 or after 1983. -Ed
Remember that car Mark, I remember who painted in red as well! Came across this photograph from circa 1987 of #43239 taken in Chichester, the driver-not his car -was Speedway rider Roger May Image Unavailable, Please Login
Every time I visit this thread I just think 'I was born in the wrong decade'. Oh to be a child of the 60s or 70s...! -Ed
I also found this 308 GTS QV from the late 1980's,but don't know the chassis number. The number is now on a Mercedes. Any ideas?
It was the fashion of the day, and it easy to be wise with hindsight. My first Ferrari, bought around 1986 was a white dry sump carbed 1981 registered 308GTB, no idea now on the chassis number but the reg was HSN 353W. I had it painted red, and ripped out the perfect black interior for a crema with red piping. In hindsight I killed a wonderful combination but at the time it was the dogs danglies ! No idea where the car is now but I always fondly remember it. I did however buy another dry sump 79' GTB a couple of years ago (sadly in red), still got it, it is even better to drive than my fond memories - not always the case.
I don't know where it is now - not taxed or MOTed since 2011 - when it was in the Guildford area. Might have gone abroad. I last saw it at a Goodwood Breakfast Club in 2008. Still red with cream then. Jonathan
