Oh, big time... I hope thinking about it doesn't **** up my golf game in the morning. LOL
Turkey chili. And, with beans, so I guess that's double sacrilege. 😬 But, I did cook it in a Dutch oven, outdoors over a wood fire. So, that should win me some brownie points. Serving it over rice. Early in the process. About three hours more to go...T
Thank you. Chili turned out good, if I say so myself. Biggest challenge with a wood fire is the very high temps at the beginning in the Dutch oven, so you really need to have your ingredients in place and ready to go in the oven, so that you can close it & the smoker in short order. Then the chili can simmer for a good long while, as the smoker and CI oven are both designed to hold heat. I used this recipe... http://allrecipes.com/recipe/80969/simple-turkey-chili/ Full disclosure - I use a pre-mixed spice blend, Williams chili season. My wife likes the flavor, low salt for MIL, & I just zip it up with hot sauce for myself...T
Thank you. It was a spur of the moment thing. I had a coupon, and the ground turkey was also on sale. So, a pound of ground turkey cost me about $1. Can't beat that! 😀 T
Do you hunt? Friends hunt? Where does one get wild boar? I've had it at restaurants, and it's awesome. Puts domestic swine to shame...T
No I don't hunt. I order it from D'Artagnan Foods: Buy Meats, Duck, Poultry, Foie Gras & Charcuterie . Kind of pricey when shipping is figured in, but not too bad. Mark
Analysis paralysis. Sansaire seems to win water height range, clip, interface. Anova has the wifi thingy. I think I'm going to go with the Sansaire as I can easily get it from amazon.ca. Wife's birthday present! DO you think she will catch on after I keep showing her how to use HER new toy? I think I better throw in some jewelry too...
I missed this convo before. My sister got me the Sansaire for Christmas and, coincidentally, I got my mother the Anova. The main benefit of the Sansaire is that it heats water quite a bit quicker. However, it is noisier. The Anova, IMO, is a nicer device. It seems better made and more sturdy. The wifi is great and works flawlessly. You can put frozen meat in the water bath, go do whatever you need to do during the day, and then turn the Anova on while you're out so the food is ready to sear when you get home. Using the one I got my mother, I have turned it on while shopping so steaks were fully cooked when I walked in the door. Pull them out of the water bath, sear, and eat. Mark
Steaks marinated in 7up, soy sauce, fish sauce, sesame oil, rice wine vinegar, garlic powder, cayenne powder, and a few slices of white onion. And of course the jalapenos. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I did a fair amount of research before settling on the Anova and I too was really impressed with the build quality. I have zero experience with the others but I don't see how you could make the Anova much better but again, what do I know, I'm biased. And Jason, those steaks look amazing! Never tried the 7up thing, how was it?
