I think its more than that. He seems very savy.

"But Henn won't be taking advantage of those amenities.

"I probably will never fly in it again," he said. "This was strictly an investment."

The Swap Shop owner bought the plane for a bargain basement $55 million because it was a test aircraft. He then promptly leased it back to Gulfstream, and company officials flew it away to corporate headquarters in Savannah, Ga.

"I took a spin around in it and now it's gone," Henn said.

The lease income covers Henn's payments. "They're paying me more than it's costing me to finance it," he said. "I'm making money on it."

Henn said Gulfstream will take the plane on a world demonstration tour."

My father-in-law just passed. He was 83. He was the only son a 1930s boxer who fought for peanuts. My father-in law built from nothing a thriving business which he later successfully sold. He was a great guy, a highly competitive sportsman in his prime and we miss him dearly (less so his awful jokes). He was a huge inspiration for me to succeed in my own line of work. It gave him immense pleasure to see the young kid who married his daughter at 22 with nothing now with a great family and a small fleet of beautiful Ferraris.

What has this to do with the topic? Here's what.

My father-in-law found old age very difficult. He lost his mobility, he found it difficult to keep up with the banter around the dinner table, he hated being a burden. He passed because he gave up the will to live, literally. The big guy hated being a shadow of his former self. The docs didn't know what to write on the death certificate.

Preston is the same age as my late father-in-law. It's wonderful to see a man of his age still fighting, still wanting recognition, still passionate about his cars. So what if he's not as a fancy as some of the young flash set who adorn YouTube and Instagram with their Gumball antics.

It's sad whatever the reason an old man can't live out the twilight of years with the respect he deserves and last few pleasures life affords.

As Dylan Thomas wrote ''Do not go gentle into that good night. Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light''.

    For our Pop.

First of all, my condolences. Your father in law sounds like a man of fighting spirit. Good for Preston that he is taking them on - he is fighting for something he loves.

Very well stated and poignant, but I would like to see him rage against the "dying of the light" by trying to be productive; perhaps helping others less fortunate. By the way I see so much of my father and my father's current life situation in your comments about your father-in-law. It's sad and it reminds us all of our own mortality. Hell at 58 I see it and feel it myself every time I go to the gym and see young men in their prime. But then I tell myself they probably can't afford my Lamborghini and Ferrari and it makes me feel a little better.

If I were him..honestly I think I would be pissed off too. He has the most valuable Ferrari in the world (supposedly) he should indeed be able to purchase this car.

Something tells me he doesn't care about the outcome. He sued them because he can and they irritated him... He'll ultimately tell them to **** themselves when he buys a used one.

Unless there was a contract stating Ferrari would sell to him, what's he griping about? On the other hand, I'll be this goes beyond just them turning him down for this one car. Ferrari must have done something else to piss him off because he has spent a lot with Ferrari.

Gordon Ramsay is getting a car but PH is "unqualified" to do so. Instead of lending my $100m Ferrari to the factory and building a museum full of Ferraris for the public to see, I'll make cakes and shout expletives on TV. Bravo Mr Galliera, great marketing for the Ferrari brand. Pathetic. :shakes head in disbelief:

Camlet - Despite the your loss, that's a great story and I understand and like your point: Preston Henn has some guts, this old man has fire in his belly, and I can imagine how indignant he'd have been, having heard "unqualified." Good for his health!

Looks like this has more to do with Ferrari's pressure tactics, as presented by the guys above, which BTW echos the story I heard from a LaFerrari owner, pony up for racing and multiple models AND after all that you have to buy one of the lower range cars, but less to do with PH's age.

Let's face it, Ferrari would extract money from wealthy dead guys if they could. :(

Someone smarter than me can correct this, but every news outlet I've seen has different production numbers but they are all substantially less than the coupes. I've read rumored numbers of 50, 70, and the highest of 150. Then again someone told me 350. Regardless, if there are 499 coupes built (ok we know more will be) then that's a lot of people left out.

    Two threads on this subject.

I'm surprised he's bringing a lawsuit but I'm also surprised that he didn't get one. He's gotten everything else including an Enzo and LaFerrari.

I've seen his collection. Very impressive to say the least. F40, F50, 959, FXX, Veyron, Miami Vice TR, Schumacher F1 car etc etc.

I like that they're on display at the Swap Shop for all to see. It's in Ft Lauderdale.

Ferrari is a public company now. I'm just guessing, but the fact that he sent an unsolicited deposit to Ferrari Spa could be viewed as an "inducement" and as a result of that they couldn't allocate him a car. So it could be a result of his own doing.
