Hopefully the mechanic hasn't already pulled your engine out and 'tampered with the evidence' before you get there. :(

I might sound paranoid, but this is going to be an expensive fix and I hope they accept responsibility for it if they did in-fact mess up.

Telling you the "one of the valves could have dropped or the cam seized causing the belt to break" doesn't sit right with me. :(

    sorry to hear this.

Who is the shop and how are they treating you ?

If the shop made the mistake and fixes it, they will gain much reputation and business.....if they do not....well they will lose many customers.

I hope they do the right thing.

Yes. It surely does. Another mechanic evading responsibility---that's sure was my thought as well.

Oh I bet the mechanic will make it a win win situation for him. You've already heard the vacation story. Then you heard an excuse story as to how the belt broke. Now your hearing silence. Good luck to you.

The OP has stated that the tech who did the work is highly reputable. How about we save the character assassination until there's some actual evidence that he has done something wrong?

Is the mechanic still on vacation? If not this should have been his highest priority when he returned from vacation.

It should have been the shops top priority...regardless of the mechanics vacation status.

Curious to hear what actually happened.

I'm guessing the shop shuts down when the mechanic goes on vacation.

I keep checking in on this thread everyday. This disaster is at least 15 days old. Silence is never a good thing when it comes to automotive repairs. I feel for our Canadian friend.

Take some pics of the engine when its out....close ups of the tensioner and water pump a must and don't lose the busted belt. Try to turn them and see if they are seized.

Hey guys please take it easy on the comments. I came here for advice. I have been speaking with the mechanic just been busy with work and haven't had a chance to update. We are going to work together to fix the problem as he is a reputable guy . My first post was an emotional one but I've since calmed down and the mechanic has been receptive. I'm not sure why some of you still think he's on vacation we've been in contact for over a week and he's been receptive to my concerns. I haven't been able to make arrangements to get the car in. I come on the site to get a third party opinion but I'm not a fan of trashing anyone as sometimes this just happen. No matter what my concern is not fault, just getting my car fixed, things like this take time.

Thanks for the update man, please keep us informed with what actually happened when you get the car into the workshop, if you wish to do so.

Good stuff here. Glad there's no rush to judgement.

As a shop owner I'm pretty skeptical at times because there are a lot of shady shops out there. But that doesn't mean that a failure immediately subsequent to service is automatically the shop's fault, even though lots of people assume it is.

Best to keep an open mind and let the guy prove himself one way or another. It's just a shame that either of you are having to deal with this.

Best wishes in getting it resolved properly.
