Hybrid 488 on its way?

Great great spot. I'm curious if the M = modificata ? If so, does the 3 mean the third version? If so is there a 1 and 2 ?? Perhaps these are variants of the 142 platform. The paper is labeled F142M. So right there the M stands for modificata. Ok I'm rambling.

If a NA V8 hybrid, I suspect some will cancel orders for turbo 488, and people like me will reconsider moving out of my 458. Best

 

^ very likely. They could do a 488 speciale with hybrid assist at front or rear as well, similar to the NSX.

 

If they go back to NA v8 they will have orders shooting through the roof. Scream+power and torque in all the rev range.... A dream!

 

IMO It's more likely they are testing for beyond the 488 Like the next modular platform
Current platform does not appear to have been designed with hybrid in mind I believe in
order to do that one would need a clean sheet design.That's just my opinion

Maybe it was just me, but when it drove off, I didn't hear a turbo spool. So maybe theres the possibility.

 

Side vent is now finally looking good. I guess Ferrari is listening to us (or the most of us).
If they eventually come up with a new car with no turbo, it will prove what I said a few months back.

IMO, that's what the 488 should have been all along.

 

Thats something similar to what i said too on the "458 replacement" thread. The next gen 458 is going to have to be a hybrid with minimal range because of zero-emissions city centers. Hopefully they've gotten the battery/motors combo down to Macca weight range which is about 30kg-50kg otherwise the 488 hybrid is going to pick up about 75kg -150kg.

 

I am highly doubting that they will go KERS V8 without turbo for the 488. More likely two options; first, the 488 Speciale could take KERS power since it is a track version, and that would give it an interesting difference to both the 488 and 458 Speciale, which it must somehow trump. With the electricity overcoming any lag and the engineers able to release full torque from the ICE in each gear, voila, massive performance and linear delivery for the track. It also provides a natural link to the technology in the F1 cars. As a very likely customer, that would certainly float my boat and give some really interesting tech at this price level, possibly keeping the 488 Speciale well ahead of the forthcoming McLaren P14.

Or, second, it is the Dino. F142 nomenclature simply reflecting the same tub as the 488, M3 reflecting the third variant of it (the second being the Speciale). This perhaps seems less likely since the engine seems to sound like a V8 (though that can be misleading). Depends what the order of development is - I seem to recall that Dino is up next and Speciale will be at least another 18 months. They are not really keeping up with demand for GTB and Spider so there doesn't seem to be any rush for the Speciale version. They may also wish to hear more from McLaren and the P14 before committing to production specs on the 488 Speciale.

 

Looking at a possible timeline starting this year in Paris, a Dino is a good bet. A timeline could look like this.

Paris. LaF Spider.
Geneva. F12 M.
Frankfurt. Cali T "30".
Geneva. Dino.
Paris. 488GTB VS.
Geneva. Cali T replacement + 488 Spider VS.
Frankfurt. ?
Geneva. 488GTB Replacement.
Paris. 488 Spider Replacement.
Geneva. FF Replacement.
Frankfurt. ?
Geneva F12 "M" Replacement.

 

Whatever they are trying to do.......best way of trying to hide the car I have seen.

488 kers na hybrid will be promising. If it keeps the na sound then I would definitely reconsider getting a 488 spider. Maybe we will find out more in 6-8 months. I am really hoping this turbo thing is just a phase for Ferrari.

 

That's not something I want. A big heavy battery and a heavy electric motor.

 

I agree. More likely the 488 replacement with N/A and KERS. I've suspected that's what they'd do ever since they mentioned 488 would be tt.

There is no way back to NA engines, amen.

The Ferrari engine road map seems to be as following.
For the "next generation" Cali (2017): a new 2.9 liter V6 tt with approx. 450hp and the current 3.9 liter V8 tt with approx. 600hp.
For the 488 "GTO": the current V8 tt engine with more than 700hp.

Because the V6 tt is shorter than the V8 tt there are plans to complement first the shorter engine with a hybrid system. I guess also the V8 tt will come with hybrid, but in the current 488 body there are challenges concerning free space for the installation of such a system.

 

One of the guys on rennteam said he heard a rumor the 488 track version might be NA/KERS.

 

What do you mean by next gen Cali in '17? '17 is the year for the F12M. And currently it seems like Ferrari reserves Geneva for the new models and use Frankfurt and Paris for the offshoots/VS cars.

To me it makes sense if they do a Cali T update like the Cali 30 at Frankfurt '17, Dino at Geneva in '18 and replace the Cali T at the Geneva show in '19.

I think you're right about the 488GTB VS being a turbo car.
