WTF? How do you think they deliver phone books or solicit donations to the local Jehovahs Witness chapter? Granted, I don't answer my door unless I'm expecting someone, but ringing a doorbell is not exactly an arrestable offense.
We live in dangerous times, tolerance for strangers walking up to someone's door is at an all time low. So, this example: I walk up to your front door, uninvited and unannounced and say, "Hi, I'm Dave from FerrariChat, we were wondering if Ian is ok. IS Ian ok? Can he come to the door?" GF is behind the door, says, "I don't know you, go away." You persist. You go to jail. She could easily just call the cops as you approach the door. I am not suggesting it's the most likely scenario, I'm just suggesting, OUT LOUD, that there are other ways to go about this without invading anyone's privacy that have worked for other members here in the past. But, who knows, he might be thrilled to see you. So, if that's your inclination, go for it. D
I don't think knocking on someone's door is a jailable offense, even in today's society. If I were within 200 miles driving distance I'd volunteer to try to find out what's going on.
Thanks a lot Fresh....it means a lot to many of us....if he or the neighbor don't answer you can always ask in a nearby coffee or shop, someone must know a british Ian around there.
I resemble that remark. Really hope things ok. If GF answers. just say you're from the stupid internet board he spends so much time on and ignores you.
Based on that theory, a modern day Magnum P.I TV series would be crap as he'd be in jail every episode! I'm genuinely hoping Ian is okay, and if he's simply decided to give up on FChat then that's fair enough. The way he has abruptly ended posting though, without warning or any provocation whatsoever is worrying and simply doesn't appear to be in keeping with his style of doing things. I would say that I think He'd be quite touched that so many people on FChat are so concerned about his welfare - It shows the great level of respect that most of us on here have for him. As I say, I have My fingers crossed that he's okay!
Agreed on that. As a mod on this site I've dealt with him over the years in PMs and I can guarantee you that he would be the last person to just pick up his ball and leave in a huffy. He'd never do that. This is totally out of character and therefore so concerning. And when I heard that he had a skull fracture and internal bleeding, putting 1 and 1 together is not that far of a stretch.
Guys, I arrived at the house extremely optimistic, it looked like a warm home and I was mentally preparing myself w knock knock jokes. I knocked and waited for quite awhile with no answer so decided to approach the neighbors, and that is when I learned that our friend Ian passed a few weeks ago. According to the neighbors, Ian's close friends had come by a few weeks prior around Father's Day after not having heard from him and discovered he had passed on inside... I am so sorry, and my thoughts are now w Ian and family. Godspeed, Godspeed. Image Unavailable, Please Login
So sorry to hear that - that's terrible news. He will be greatly missed here - thoughts are with his family. Thanks for all your efforts Fresh. Best, Sammy
God speed Ian, I truly considered you a friend even though we've never met. I'll miss your posts and insight, stories from the past. Rest in Peace my friend. PS: A special thank you to Freshmeat for having taking the effort to go check on him.
