    Hey guys,

Does anyone have any good suggestions for tie downs to transport a 488 to a track a bit distant from my location? I am hoping to get it there without damaging the wheels. Also, any suggestions on a trailer, either open or closed. Thanks guys.

I trailer my Speciale, Make sure whatever type you get it is plenty wide enough so you can comfortably load and unload. I have nice soft strapes for around the wheels but I usually dont go much over 50 miles towing.

What is your tow vehicle? I would recommend enclosed all aluminum as there is considerable weight savings over a steel frame and enclosed is safer for overnight hauls in regards to equipment and your car. At least double axle and buy a name brand. I bought an Aluma enclosed trailer last year as an emergency to bring home an additional car from California (Normal track hauler is a Showhauler with a 19" enclosed garage). Great trailer and tows easily. Highly recommended. Might be selling as I am looking at a stacker trailer. Other trailers would be the Haulmark, ATC, Legend. In regards to tie downs, I just ordered some Mac? tiedowns which are very easy to use because of the ratchet locations.

Even with a good tie-down or ratchet strap, I still like to wrap a microfiber around the section that contacts the inner barrel of the wheel. Better safe than sorry!

I would also HIGHLY suggest an aluminum enclosed trailer. While an open trailer might be cheaper in the short-term, the peace of mind that comes from knowing that your car is locked up and protected is well-worth the investment. It also protects the paint during transport and gives you a mobile HQ while at the track. Most enclosed trailers will have cabinets, counter space, etc.

I spend a very significant amount of time in my trailer while I'm at the track, and it's hard to imagine not having one.

Lastly, if you're serious about tracking your 488, I'd highly recommend a good set of 6-point harnesses. These cars are so fast and have so much grip that the factory seats and 3-point belts are absolutely worthless at speed. You spend more time trying to brace yourself in place around turns than you do focusing on your line and your inputs.

If you want specific recommendations on harnesses, let me know. I can also get you set up with a harness mounting bar: Ferrari 488 Harness Bar & Mounting Kit - Fabspeed Motorsport

I just went through this process. If you're looking for the best aluminum trailer, look no further than InTech. I compared $20-30k trailers and InTech's pricing and quality were head and shoulders above the others. Talk to any dealer that sells different brands and they'll tell you the same. I built a 24' custom trailer with airline track and bought Mac's VersaTie Tire Block Strap Pack - ratchets the car down over the tires and doesn't touch wheels or frame.

Sorry for the sideways pic. Pretty sure I'm 0-20 on posting a properly rotated pic on the internet.

The other thing I forgot to mention, which it looks like your trailer has, is the side "escape door". It's incredibly convenient to be able to enter/exit the car when pulling it in and out without having to crawl through the window.

PS: Here is your photo, rotated and ready to go!

You definitely want good tie-down straps with that trailer! ;)

To the OP, I second the notion of wrapping microfiber cloths around the portion of the strap in contact with the wheel.
