He really didn't seem to know what to do. It seemed like he got closer as the foam fell.

Could have gone left. Could have gone right. Probably could have come to a complete stop.

    Perhaps he wasn't paying attention?

He definitely didn't try to maneuver fast enough that's for sure. I think you're right he wasn't paying attention, because if he had it seemed as though going left would have been the automatic reaction.

Definitely a difference between a driver/rider with years of experience versus a 20 year old rider/driver.

He was approaching the rear of the at fault vehicle too quickly, and he now knows why you do your best to avoid being behind anyone hauling anything.

Hopefully that SUV driver will be found or turn himself in. I'm sure someone with great video editing can get the license plate number.

    This may be it.

He kept accelerating towards the vehicle when that foam roll started to move. The moment I saw that thing move I would have been off the throttle and trying to get as far away from it as possible.

My only thought on why I would have gone to the left is it looks like there is very little shoulder there and most likely a guardrail in the median.

Spot on sir. You can see in the video that as soon as he gets off his line, he goes straight towards the swim mattress.

By the way, I have one (in yellow), and a its the best thing a boater can have. The ladies love it ;)

    Rider is wearing shorts?

And yes, a classic example of target fixation.

Yeah, they must be those special Kevlar motorcycle shorts. They're supposed to offer protection that's almost as good regular long leather pants.
