I am currently looking into replacing the LH and RH fins of my 2000 Challenge car rear wing. The fins have faded from sunlight and suffert from it´s race-history. Part numbers are 177825 and 177824. Ferrari charges between 495 and 658 Euros for EACH fin. The parts are really simple made and not of the best quality and at 200grams each quite heavy, too.
I´m going to get some new made from a friend of mine who serves the upper end of the yachting industry with cf-items.
We aim for: same look, less, weight, higher quality and last but not least a significant lower price.
For my supplier it doesn´t matter if he´s going to do 1 or 10 sets so I just wanted to check if there´s more demand for these parts. I´ll get a quotation within the next few days so if you might be interested in a set please post here.

Picture of a set of old fins attached.

All yours really needs is an automotive clear coat. Mine was slightly damaged one 1 side, so I made a mold of them to make new ones. You won't save much weight unless you go much thinner than originally designed. I can weigh the ones I made and the originals to see if there's much of a difference.

I´ll keep the old ones anyway for the sake of "originality" of the car... It might become the difference between an auction result of 20.1 million or 20.2 million in 2027... :))

Its always good to have an extra set as these can be damaged very easily. I have the wing on both cars.

We need re-pop wings so we can put the original ones away while racing

That was another thought of us. If we get a batch of 10 or so together it would start making sense. I'll look into that after holiday.

I don't think it would be a very difficult or costly task to re-produce it as it is a quite straight forward shaped wing. Marius, now that you have the end plates off, would you be able to make an imprint of the profile? I mean with the profile of the wing, I could easily fabricate a wooden plug, and make a mold for the wing myself.

It is certainly not straight forward. The legs are a bit complex and the bracket that protrudes from underneath and fused onto the wing is also tricky.

I have an original challenge wing if you want to take it off my hands.

I know that part would be challenging, my idea was to have the brackets CNC milled from billet aluminium and have them anodized black. Maybe even make the design adjustable.

Maybe something like in the picture below

I most definitely do want to take the original wing off your hands, please PM me and we'll work it out. I can't believe this, is my wing quest finally coming to an end? :)

Many F355 Challenge cars I see at track events have reproduction CF wings. They're identified by the CF weave pattern but are otherwise exact reproductions. They were ordered from Stealth Composites, Inc.: Stealth Composites Inc

Original wings don't get damaged at track events, Tim, but the clear coat has to be redone every few years. After the last event this year, mine will get a new clear coat.

    +1

You'd have to be driving the car crazy as hell to damage the fins or any part of the wing.

Barry. If you paint one time with Glasurit clear coat, you won't ever have to re-clear again. Just polish and maintain.

I believe a few people have tried ordering from Stealth with no response/availability of the 355 challenge wing. It was also made in 3k 2x2 Twill Weave carbon, but the correct carbon is 3K Plain Weave.

I made a mold out of mine because I'm confident I can build one much lighter than the one I have. Most of the mold is already made, but I'll have to build a piece. In the meantime, I'll need the original one for a visual reference and I also need to get the metal mounting brackets that go underneath the engine lid made. If you can wait for me to get all of that done, then of course you can take the original wing off my hands. Now I can motivate myself to finish what I started :). But I can tell you right now, the original wing won't be cheap. I paid about $4500 for it.

    Ken,

That's what Classic Coach will be using to clear coat my wing. I'm not sure what was used in the past with previous owners. It's an original F355 Challenge wing.

Too bad about Stealth. From what I see, their wings were pretty good.

Tim. You forgot to mention to Mazco you already have aluminum adjustment plates made that can attach to any 355 challenge wing for more angle options :).

I am one of those people, tried 3 times and no response :(

Sure, I'm in no hurry. Would that be a complete wing or just the "blade"? I mean are you planning on using the original brackets for your new wing?

Btw, has anyone seen this wing by Eurospares live? They advertize it as a 355 wing but the ends look a bit strange.....

That wing might fit a 355 but it is nowhere close to being a 355 challenge wing.

I'm selling you the whole shebang. Blade, fins, uprights, and original brackets. I dont need the original metal brackets once I have a cnc shop make them for me, so that will be included in the sale.

Hi Ken, hows the wing project evolving? I'm planning a trip to the U.S in the beginning of next month and possibly I could swing by and pick the wing up in person.
