Nice looking car for sale here.

OK I admit a bias for Verde Z, which looks even better in the metal I might add , but great options, luggage, reasonable mileage and so on. At that estimate it looks like good value.

If was bidding I would like to see some of those bills totalling circa £39k. We are told about the Tubi and FHP retrofits but the uprated front brakes are not documented in the lot listing. Does anyone recognise the specification?

This car looks great overall but a cursory review of the photos reveals that the upper dash may be shrinking and the rear parcel shelf carpet is wavy. Not huge issues but whenever I see some evidence of UV damage, the chances are that other areas will have been affected rise. It's possible that some sticky parts may have already been replaced on this example.

Looks like s really god car at a decent price.

 

If its an estate sale reserve could be quite low but then the typical price for a similar car has been £ 80-90 retail for the past couple of years and if they've not sold quickly they seem to have hung around for ages - RM commission is effectively 15 % so could be a killer on this - not 10 % like US sales - so bidding beyond £ 70 is chancey value

 

Quite a few things wrong in the description. Unless this 2002 has a Superamerica engine, she does not have 540 hp and the same old saw about larger brakes. Suitcases appear to be from a 550, but still look good. Must have been one of the earliest fitted with the 19" wheels, unless they were retrofitted. Earliest original 19" wheels I have are around that serial number. Would need the build sheet to know for sure. At least they gave us the SN and AN.

I noted more than a couple of listings at what to me appeared to be mouthwatering estimates.

 

Jimmie is right. Unless you are particularly looking for a VZ car, there are and have been plenty of other options in the UK classifieds.

Interesting point that the estimates on this seem to be more realistic than auctions earlier this year, possibly due to the no-sales at those. A necessary readjustment? We will see..

 

I see the VZ car as a below average miles UK RHD FHP 575M F1 with good options that presents well and comes with a thick history file.

The Pistonheads' classifieds are full of optimists but I haven't seen a better RHD value proposition this side of £100k for a while.

Slades Garage have 3x RHD 575M F1's at £110k. They all have circa double the miles and none appear to have FHP (although one has Modulars and Daytonas).

P.S. Slades also have a RHD 550 at £100k but that one shows 93,000miles...

 

I'm pretty sure the history is wrong too as I think Ed was at least the third owner.

I'm with you. It may go for well over estimate but I would certainly think its worth a cheeky bid, auctions have been a bit flat lately so you never know. Lets hope its picked up by an enthusiast rather than a trader.

She was a retrofit FHP, too, but that should not hurt value much. Doubt if the brakes were done, but who knows?

 

Post #2 above shows the floating-rotor upgraded front brakes that are on it right now. Do you recognise the brand?

 

and apparently only a part set.

I guess it's been across the block by now - I wonder what it fetched?

Those look like 6 piston Brembos, but cannot tell if the rotors are 355 or 380 mm. Makes me wonder if the modular were not retrofitted to fit over the front brakes. They would not fit under 18" wheels.

 

What sort of craziness is £ 134 400 inclusive.....

It certainly is. Two 330 GT 2+2s auctioned by RM Sotheby, both series 2, both LHD, both on Borranis, both fully restored:

Monterey in August - $737,000 (£555,415)

London in September - £207,200 ($274,940)

 

...had thursday a look at a quiet perfect 550 Maranello in verde inglese (BRG) with cuoio interior.... Located in Tuscany, first owner car, no stickies, perfect leather, first paint, some service needed, otherwise a nice collectors car, below 30.000 km's. Price in line with the Verde Zeltweg example..... 163.000 €.

Well nearly two years on and this car has popped up for sale again and I'm wondering if it's reappearance has anything to do with the recent demise (we'll demise might be premature but it's on life support) of JD Classics.

Can anyone shed any light on where this car has been since being advertised by JD?

I've registered to bid at this auction, which is something I've never done before. I find the idea of buying a car at auction quite daft given the lack of comeback if it turns out to be a pup. However, if I had a time machine and the money and could go back to 2002 and buy a new one to my spec, this would be it. At least the colour combination.

Things are complicated further by the fact I need a bit of finance to buy it, which I've discovered isn't a straightforward thing in an auction scenario.
